Confronting pain experience in depressed and not depressed patients with chronic and persistent pain: usefulness in clinical practice (original) (raw)

Abstract

Background / Purpose: The aim of this work is to observe differences between the pain experience of depressed patients and not depressed patients referred to the Multidisciplinary Pain Center. On this regard, we want to evaluate if the Italian Pain Questionnaire (IPQ) can be used to discriminate between these two groups. Main conclusion: The IPQ can be useful in clinical practice as a first screening for patients with chronic and persistent pain to identify those with emotional distress that need a deeper psychological evaluation.
