Thermal thresholds as predictors of seed dormancy release and germination timing: altitude-related risks from climate warming for the wild grapevine Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris (original) (raw)

Response of grapevine phenology to recent temperature change and variability in the wine-producing area of Sremski Karlovci, Serbia

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 2015

SUMMARYThe historical temperature (1981–2007) and phenological (1986–2011) data were analysed for the region of Sremski Karlovci, one of the oldest grapevine growing areas in Europe, with the aim of detecting trends of changes in the data, evaluating the sensitivity of grapevine phenology to temperature and revealing diversity among cultivars in their response to observed changes in temperature. The onset dates of four major phenological stages (budburst, flowering, veraison and harvest), along with the corresponding growth intervals between them, were examined for 20 wine grape cultivars. A number of climatically important parameters for viticulture were calculated for the calendar year, growing season and different grapevine growth periods. Significant increases were detected in average and heat-related extreme temperature indices. The greatest rate of change in temperature variables across the growing season was observed during the period from the beginning of flowering to the be...

Physiological Response of Grapevine (Vitis Vinifera L. CV. Fetească Albă) at the Climatic Conditions of 2012 in Iaşi and Cotnari Wine Regions

2015

As a result of global climate change, strongly felt in recent years, the grapevine is becoming increasingly exposed to abiotic stress factors. Among these, temperature, light intensity and rainfall, with significant variations from normal, play an important role in the occurrence of changes in the physiological activity of the plant. The aim of this study was to investigate the physiological response of Fetească alba grapevine variety at the climatic conditions of the year 2012, in Iaşi and Cotnari wine regions. A source-sink relationship was analyzed based on photosynthetic activity, water use efficiency and storage of metabolites in different plant organs. In the phenophases of flowering, grapes growth and grape maturation were found changes in photosynthetic activity and water use efficiency of the plant, caused by different climate conditions, without significant quantitative differences in the assimilate storage. This means that, at Vitis vinifera L cv Fetească albă, better ada...

Current trends of agroclimatic indices applied to grapevine in Tuscany (Central Italy)

2009

Global warming is causing wide changes in atmospheric events with critical impacts on vegetations. Indeed, an increase of temperature variability has been observed, primarily due to increase in warm extremes. Temperature rising will lead to several consequences. For example, growing season lengthening is observed, but at the same time, plants grow faster, thus giving productions low in quality and quantity. Finally, concerning the Mediterranean region, it is evaluated that a greater water request is needed for irrigation. Besides, high maximum temperatures during summer months may cause drop in quality. On the opposite, concerning winter risks, earlier bud break will increase late frost risks. The aim of this study is to cover some aspects of warming temperature and phenological responses on grapevine in central Italy. The research is focused on climatic and agroclimatic indices calculated in 1955-2007 period. Regression trend, linear or non-parametric, depending on the distribution...
