A theoretical approach to tourism sustainability (original) (raw)

The tourism industry, a major economic driver, faces sustainability challenges due to environmental degradation caused by development. This paper develops a minimal model to analyze the interactions between tourists, the natural environment, and capital to predict the effects of various policies on tourism sustainability. The findings reveal that human tendencies toward short-sightedness and greed can hinder the attainment of sustainable tourism practices, while acknowledging the limitations of the model, particularly in not accounting for social, cultural, and political factors.
