Interpersonal communication through the internet (original) (raw)
The Internet has become a social environment where a large number of people all over world are connected to each other regardless of differing locations and timetables. Thus, this technology provides a place where people can meet to do business, to collaborate on a task, to solve problems, to organize a project, and to engage in personal conversation. The development of computers and telecommunication technologies has also influenced the social life of individuals. Through the Internet people can engage in personal conversation and create close relationships. Such relationships even can end in marriage. Especially match making and chat sites provided by the Internet transform interpersonal relationships into a new social place. Therefore, this article focuses on how the internet technologies have changed relationships in the society and considers the characteristics of the resulting relationships, in comparison with face-toface relationships. The Internet - A new communicational Infrastructure CFI 2001
By situating the Internet within the general history of media, the paper aims at a characterization of the general properties of the Internet. First, a general model of the five most significant matrices of media in the history of mankind is presented and discussed. Second, the paper addresses some of the issues arising from the interrelationships between media in a given matrix as well as the transition from one matrix into another. Third, the paper presents various definitions and approaches to the analysis of the Internet; and finally, the paper concludes with a discussion of properties constituting the Internet as a narrative and discursive space.
Internet-from the Encyclopedia of Communication
Encyclopedia of Globalization, 2007
The "internet" refers to the global system of computer networks which are linked together through a common protocol. Although there are many diverse functions associated with internet technologies, the most significant and recurrent feature of the Internet is its role as a communication technology, allowing instantaneous global communication and access to information. The technologies themselves change rapidly, with new functions and applications arising with remarkable speed, making any discussion of the technology somewhat obsolete. The technologies associated with the Internet reflected global developments in communication technologies, and facilitated the worldwide transmission of information, making the Internet perhaps the ultimate technology associated with technology.
One general reservation should be expressed at the beginning of this paper. Phenomena described below are based rather on specificity of Polish Internet, although this cannot be done without taking into account sub-system character of Internet treated as an element of media communication. The analysis itself is based on the constructivist theory of communication.
Internet; Changing the Social Dynamics
Internet is now part of our daily lives. Most of the people check their social media accounts, weather, their e-mails from Internet in the morning even before they get a cup of coffee. We have an intimate and direct relationship with Internet in every single second of our daily life. Sometimes it is not an option to use or neglect it. As Deborah Lupton says, we live in a digital society and this digital era have influenced our daily life, commerce, government, economy, social relations etc. . It was the late 90s when the human kind has met with the cell-phone. No exaggerating, this was a mile stone in the digital history after the invention of computer. But somehow the spread of cell-phone usage was faster than the computer’s. There is a long and toilsome history behind the keyboard under of our finger tips. What made Internet so widespread is open to discussion, yet we all agree that our hearts are beating with it. Our daily life is under the influence of Internet. In this literature I want to point out the effects of Social Media usage in Internet on our daily life, politics and collection of information somewhat like journalism. Public is kin to publicity and popularity, so it is best to start with the "Public".
