How equally sized piscivorous birds and fish sharing common food resources may reduce possible feeding interactions between them? (original) (raw)

Fish and aquatic birds often exploit similar food resources, which can lead to competition. While many studies have focused on invertebrate diets of these animals, the current research compares the feeding strategies of piscivorous birds and fish that share overlapping diets. Specifically, this study examines the dietary habits of cormorants and pikeperch in a shared habitat, highlighting how their differences in prey selection reduce dietary overlap and potential competition, supporting their co-existence.
