Hiatus et lacune. Occupation du Rift éthiopien à la fin du Pléistocène et au début de l’Holocène (original) (raw)
Eastern Africa is an ideal terrain to address cultural diversity and interaction between humans and the environment during the late Upper Pleistocene and the Holocene. We propose here, based on results from the study of the Ziway-Shala basin, a synthesis of the available archaeological data for the time period ranging from the late Marine Isotope Stage 3 to the beginning of the Holocene. We stress the lack of evidence for human occupation during Marine Isotope Stage 2 at a regional scale, and therefore explore several environmental and human factors that could have led to this situation, as well as question the role of the Main Ethiopian Rift in peopling dynamics.
