Metrological Confirmation of the Industrial Measurement Systems

The main objective of the metrological confirmation of industrial measurement systems, which is a reduction of probability of products or production processes qualification errors, is presented. The evolution of the standardization guidance, including the latest editions of International Standards ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 10012:2003 is described. The question why the system of periodic calibrations is essential but not satisfactory procedure to obtain complete metrological confirmation is explained.

Creating Accuracy of Industrial Measurement Sytems for Their Intended Use

The question why various objectives of measurements performed in the industry effect in different metrological requirements for applied measurement systems is explained. The rule of creating accuracy of industrial measurement systems for their intended use is presented. The example of improving accuracy of industrial measure-ment systems based on results of two experiments: R&R analysis and bias linearity analysis is described.

Metrology in industry. The mean of “validation” in different measurements

Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 2018

Metrology is the concurrent of the science of measurement. It is the essential part for any scientific research, industry (including manufacturing), trading, safety (environment protection, medicine, new/smart technologies) and realistically for all areas of human daily life. Nowadays society should not have any possibilities for complete functioning without it. Metrology helps to ensure high accuracy, low uncertainty measurements that are needful for now and the future. Still many industry areas needs deeper understanding of legal and industrial metrology requirements. Also it is missing some common evaluation of final result or process characterization in technical, social or natural sciences (chemistry, pharmaceutics and medicine). High variety of measurement areas impede the common "language" and understanding. This research highlights these problems and gives some considerations about term "validation" as an example.

A careful consideration of the calibration concept

Journal of Research of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2001

This paper presents a detailed discussion of the technical aspects of the calibration process with emphasis on the definition of the measurand, the conditions under which the calibration results are valid, and the subsequent use of the calibration results in measurement uncertainty statements. The concepts of measurement uncertainty, error, systematic error, and reproducibility are also addressed as they pertain to the calibration process.

Measuring Equipment Calibration and Determination of the Initial Calibration Interval

2020

To optimize measurement procedures in laboratories, in terms of the balance between economics and risk, determination of the optimal calibration interval for measuring equipment has significant importance. This paper will show an approximate, but effective method for determination of initial calibration interval, regarding “ILAC” guidelines and original recommendations based on authors’ experience. The presented applied method is adapted for the equipment used in a laboratory for building materials and structural testing, and the results of its application are shown on the examples of several different instruments. Impact factors on calibration intervals are analyzed, and the basic recommendations for revision of the initial calibration intervals are given.

Quality of Industrial Measurements

Engineering Surveys for Industry

Due to the intensive research in the field of development of sensors, measuring instruments or measuring systems, the level of industrial measurement is well developed. The quality of measurement is generally connected with using modern, high-quality, and verified instruments and measurement systems in the process. Parallel to this, the application of optimal methods with correct result assessment is required. Nowadays, wide standardization in measuring for the industry is considered to be a matter of course; however, the journey toward standardization was very demanding and not always easy. The chapter brings a short overview of the development in the field of industrial measurement, metrology, quality assessment, as well as the process of standardization and institutionalization. Finally, the basic rules and requirements of testing and valuation of geodetic equipment, instruments, and systems are introduced, and the list of international standards relevant to the discussed topic is presented.
