Estudio preliminar de prevalencia de obesidad en escolares prepúberes en Mendoza (Argentina) (original) (raw)
Introduction: Obesity is a global problem with a high prevalence in childhood and affects the normal growth of children and predisposes possible noncommunicable chronic conditions such as dyslipidemia, diabetes, hypertension and others. The native diet is replaced by energy-dense diets and also notes an increase in physical inactivity. Objective: To determine the prevalence of obesity in children and schooling their relationship with food and recreational habits. Method: descriptive, correlational and longitudinal study. 147 children between 11 and 13 years of age who anthropometric measurements and tests Krece Plus for food and recreational habits were taken were studied. Results: In the studied population 37% of the population had normal BMI (18 to 24.9) with 40% corresponding to overweight (25-29.9) values and 23% obese (≥ 30). There is a very high correlation between the values of Krece Score Plus Low (≤5) and BMI values corresponding to overweight and obesity high (Pearson Test, p <0.001). None of the respondents gave a value compatible with Krece Score Plus for physical activity: Good. Discussion: The finding of elevated BMI values is accompanied by a marked sedentary lifestyle in the study population, the sum of a few hours of extracurricular physical activity and replacing them for hours in front of the screen, they favor the tendency to obesity the child population in question. The new "techno generation" abandoned the habits of healthy outdoor sport for long gaming sessions network. Keywords: Childhood obesity, prepubertal, sedentary lifestyle, diet.
