Unbiased minimum-variance input and state estimation for linear discrete-time systems
Automatica, 2007
This paper extends previous work on joint input and state estimation to systems with direct feedthrough of the unknown input to the output. Using linear minimum-variance unbiased estimation, a recursive filter is derived where the estimation of the state and the input are interconnected. The derivation is based on the assumption that no prior knowledge about the dynamical evolution of the unknown input is available. The resulting filter has the structure of the Kalman filter, except that the true value of the input is replaced by an optimal estimate.

In this paper, we present an optimal filter for linear discrete-time stochastic systems with direct feedthrough that simultaneously estimates the states and unknown inputs in an unbiased minimum-variance sense. We argue that the information about the unknown input can be obtained from the current time step as well as the previous one, making it possible to estimate the unknown input in different ways. We then propose one variation of the filter that uses the updated state estimate to compute the best linear unbiased estimate (BLUE) of the unknown input. The comparison of the new filter and the filters in existing literature is discussed in detail and tested in simulation examples.
Unbiased minimum-variance state estimation for linear systems with unknown input
Automatica, 2009
The problem of state estimation for a linear system with unknown input, which affects both the system and the output, is discussed in this paper. A recursive optimal filter with global optimality in the sense of unbiased minimum variance over all linear unbiased estimators, is provided. The necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence and stability is also given, which is milder than existing approaches.

This paper studies recursive optimal filtering as well as robust fault and state estimation for linear stochastic systems with unknown disturbances. It proposes a new recursive optimal filter structure with transformation of the original system. This transformation is based on the singular value decomposition of the direct feedthrough matrix distribution of the fault which is assumed to be of arbitrary rank. The resulting filter is optimal in the sense of the unbiased minimum-variance criteria.
State and unknown input estimation for linear discrete-time systems
Automatica, 2006
In this paper, a state and unknown input delayed estimator is designed for discrete-time linear systems even if some well-known matching condition does not hold. This result is obtained using a constructive algorithm that analyzes the state observability and the left invertibility of the systems with unknown inputs and that provides a suitable canonical transformation for the design of the estimator. ᭧
Mathematical Problems in Engineering, 2010
This paper presents a new recursive filter to joint fault and state estimation of a linear timevarying discrete systems in the presence of unknown disturbances. The method is based on the assumption that no prior knowledge about the dynamical evolution of the fault and the disturbance is available. As the fault affects both the state and the output, but the disturbance affects only the state system. Initially, we study the particular case when the direct feedthrough matrix of the fault has full rank. In the second case, we propose an extension of the previous case by considering the direct feedthrough matrix of the fault with an arbitrary rank. The resulting filter is optimal in the sense of the unbiased minimum-variance UMV criteria. A numerical example is given in order to illustrate the proposed method.

This contribution proposes a robust recursive algorithm for state estimation of linear multi-output systems with unknown but bounded disturbances corrupting both the state and measurement vectors. A novel approach based on state bounding techniques is presented. The proposed algorithm can be decomposed into two steps : time updating and observation updating that uses a switching estimation Kalman-like gain matrix. Particular emphasis will be given to the design of a weighting factor that ensures consistency of the estimated state vectors with the input-output data and the noise constraints and that enforces convergence properties.
A New Approach of State estimation of Linear Discrete Systems
Journal of Control Engineering and Applied Informatics, 2018
In this paper a new technique is developed to estimate the states of both deterministic and uncertain discrete-time stochastic linear systems. The proposed approach is based on pole placement technique in which a set of constraints is imposed on the estimated output. The stability of the estimation error is rigorously analyzed for both deterministic and stochastic cases. The developed approach is then applied to estimation problems of discrete-time deterministic linear system as well as uncertain stochastic systems for which the system model and the output measurements are assumed to be corrupted with Gaussian or non- Gaussian zero mean white noise sequences. Simulations results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the developed procedure. For the deterministic case, the application of the proposed approach gives much better results when compared with those using Luenberger observer. For the stochastic case, the developed state estimator gives better results when compa...
Some new algorithms for recursive estimation in constant, linear, discrete-time systems
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1974
Abstrucf-Certain recently developed fast algorithms for recursive estimation in constant continuous-time linear systems are extended to discrete-time systems. The main feature is the replacement of the Riccati-type difference equation that is generally used for such problems by another set of difference equations that we call of Chandrasekhar-type. The total number of operations in the new algorithm is in general less than with the Riccati-equation based Kalman filter, with significant reductions being obtained in several important special cases. The algorithms are derived via a factorization of increments of the Riccati equation variable, a method that can be extended to nonsymmetric Riccati equations as well.
Optimal state filtering and parameter identification for linear systems
Optimal Control Applications and Methods, 2008
This paper presents the optimal joint state filtering and parameter identification problem for linear stochastic time-delay systems with unknown parameters. The original identification problem is reduced to the optimal filtering problem for incompletely measured polynomial (bilinear) timedelay system states over linear observations with an arbitrary, not necessarily invertible, observation matrix, where the unknown parameters are considered standard Wiener processes and incorporated as additional states in the extended state vector. The obtained solution is based on the designed optimal filter for incompletely measured bilinear time-delay states over linear observations, taking into account that the optimal filter for the extended state vector also serves as the optimal identifier for the unknown parameters. In the example, performance of the designed optimal state filter and parameter identifier is verified for a linear time-delay system with an unknown multiplicative parameter over linear observations. Both, stable and unstable, linear systems are examined.
