Cultural heritage as city identity case study of Ngawi, East Java, Indonesia

Cultural globalization has an impact on the loss of the distinctiveness of places, so place identity becomes an important issue in urban design. Ngawi is located in the western part of East Java Province and is often passed by tourists heading to cities in East Java. However, tourists are unfamiliar with Ngawi and only pass it on their journey. This underlines the need to form a city identity to lift the image of the city of Ngawi. Several cultural heritage sites can be appointed as city identity, namely Van Den Bosch Fort, Trinil Museum, Pesanggrahan Srigati, Kediaman Radjiman Widyadiningrat, Sien Hien Kiong Temple and Soedhono Sugar Factory. Involvement of Families as Owners of Cultural Heritage Improving Religious Tourism in Banda Aceh: Perspective of Maslahah Theory

The increase in the tourism sector, particularly religious and cultural tourism to Indonesia, especially Aceh, can contribute to the increasing number of visits. This study aims to discuss families’ involvement in managing cultural heritage in Banda Aceh. The research method is phenomenological qualitative research, analyzed using maslahah theory. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and document analysis. The results indicate that some cultural heritages in Banda Aceh have economic, historical, and religious value. One of the preferred tourist destinations is the Tomb of Sheikh Abdurrauf, which is visited by many domestic and foreign tourists. Sumatra is one of the provinces in Indonesia that has great heritage tourism potential. The existence of attractive cultural buildings and traditional transportation is the particular character of heritage tourism. Heritage Tourism at the Historical Town of Malacca: Examining Opportunities, Evaluating Challenges

Heritage tourism is one of the growing tourism products in Malaysia. Good marketing will increase the demand on heritage tourism and gives benefits to Malaysia tourism industry. This study seeks to explore the marketing strategies used by museums to market their product and examine the challenges faced in promoting and marketing the heritage tourism product. Data was collected using semi-structured interview method. Respondents consist of four museums including curators and operation assistant. Because of the respondent was selected at the location this study employs typical sampling. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis of Braun and Clark. Findings show that market segmentation, promotion and products/services were the marketing strategy employed by museums in this study. These museums faced several internal issues such as issues on employee and high operational cost as well as the external challenges includes changing environment. It is recommended that future research should be conducted at other state in Malaysia or other types of museum such as private museums so that knowledge on heritage tourism could be enriched.

Formulation Policy Development of Heritage Tourism Objects in Old City Teluk Betung, South in Bandar Lampung

The development of tourism areas in regions is solution in supporting regional economic growth. One of destinations that is object of development of the tourist area is heritage tourism object of Teluk Betung Selatan Kota Tua, Bandar Lampung. This study identifies policy formulations in development of heritage tourism objects in Teluk Betung Selatan City, Bandar Lampung City. local government of Bandar Lampung seeks to develop this destination through tourism decentralization. problem is focused on the TBS Old Town area which has not developed into a heritage tourist destination with many historical elements. Heritage tourism is the concept of historical heritage urban tourism as a tourist attraction. study reviews in depth the policy strategies pursued by the local government in developing the Teluk Betung Old City destination. process of data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and qualitatively analyzed. The results showed local government of Bandar Lampung City formulated policies through the Mayor of Bandar Lampung Decree Number: 529/ III.01/ HK/2018 regarding the Establishment of Team for Preparation of Regional Cultural Thoughts for the City of Bandar Lampung. Through policy basis, local governments develop these tourist destinations with aim cultural preservation, economic improvement and regional development growth.
