Characterization of a cytochrome P450 deficient mutant of Candida albicans (original) (raw)

A cytochrome P450 deficient mutant of Candida albicans, identified as DlO, was characterized, revealing its inability to produce ergosterol and its accumulation of alternative sterols. The study found that strain DlO lacked all traces of cytochrome P450, crucial for the 14α-demethylation of lanosterol to ergosterol, and showed distinctive phenotypes in comparison to Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants. Reversion analysis suggested that the mutant does not require ergosterol for growth and might differ in sterol requirements from S. cerevisiae.
