Artificial Neural Networks Application To Improve Shunt Active Power Filter

2009

Active Power Filters (APFs) are today the most widely used systems to eliminate harmonics compensate power factor and correct unbalanced problems in industrial power plants. We propose to improve the performances of conventional APFs by using artificial neural networks (ANNs) for harmonics estimation. This new method combines both the strategies for extracting the three-phase reference currents for active power filters and DC link voltage control method. The ANNs learning capabilities to adaptively choose the power system parameters for both to compute the reference currents and to recharge the capacitor value requested by VDC voltage in order to ensure suitable transit of powers to supply the inverter. To investigate the performance of this identification method, the study has been accomplished using simulation with the MATLAB Simulink Power System Toolbox. The simulation study results of the new (SAPF) identification technique compared to other similar methods are found quite sati...

Performance Measure of Shunt Active Power Filter Applied with Intelligent Control Technique

Journal of Power of Technologies, 2020

This paper describes a shunt active power filter for compensating harmonic currents and reactive power. The shunt active power filter(SAPF) was implemented with a phase pulse modulated current control voltage source inverter. The proposed system is based on PLL synchronization with reduced fuzzy logic controller (RD-FLC). These control techniques for SAPF prove that source current is sinusoidal even when load is non linear. The CC-VSI inverter switching is done according to gating pulse obtained from the hysteresis controller using RD-FLC controller. The proposed system is investigated using simulation results. The effectiveness of the controller is observed in the form of total harmonic distortion, reactive power compensation and settling time of dc link voltage under non linear load condition. This technology reduced the rules of fuzzy logic controller from 49 to 37.

Nonlinear Loads Compensation Using a Shunt Active Power Filter Controlled by Feedforward Neural Networks

Applied Sciences, 2021

The shunt active power filter (SAPF) is a widely used tool for compensation of disturbances in three-phase electric power systems. A high number of control methods have been successfully developed, including strategies based on artificial neural networks. However, the typical feedforward neural network, the multilayer perceptron, which has provided effective solutions to many nonlinear problems, has not yet been employed with satisfactory performance in the implementation of the SAPF control for obtaining the reference currents. In order to prove the capabilities of this simple neural topology, this work describes a suitable strategy of use, based on the accurate estimation of the Fourier coefficients corresponding to the fundamental harmonic of any distorted voltage or current. An effective training method has been developed, consisting of the use of many distorted patterns. The new generation procedure uses random combinations of multiple harmonics, including the possible nominal ...
