The aim of this article is to point out the relationship between the graphomotor skills and mastering spelling amongst elementary second grade students. The experiment took place in three sites in the Quebec Province, i.e. Montreal, Sherbrooke and Rimouski. 353 students from elementary second grade were met on 3 occasions throughout the year, i.e. October, February and May. Two collective tasks were proposed to the students in the three data collection events. The first task consists in asking the students to write the greatest number of letters in alphabetical order, in one minute (Berninger, 1997). The second task consists in writing words in a limited time (Graham et al, 1997). The students have to write 20 words of one or two syllables, verbally and visually presented (illustration and word spelling).
