sEMG wavelet-based indices predicts muscle power loss during dynamic contractions

Journal of Electromyography and Kinesiology, 2010

Purpose: To compare the sensitivity to estimate acute exercise-induced changes on muscle power output during a dynamic fatiguing protocol from new surface electromyography (sEMG) indices based on the discrete wavelet transform, as well as from amplitude and spectral indices of muscle fatigue (i.e. mean average voltage, median frequency and ratios between spectral moments). Methods: 15 trained subjects performed 5 sets consisting of 10 leg press, with 2 minutes rest between sets. sEMG was recorded from vastus medialis (VM) muscle. Several surface electromyographic parameters were computed. These were: mean average voltage (MAV), median spectral frequency (Fmed), Dimitrov spectral index of muscle fatigue (FInsm5), as well as other five parameters obtained from the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) as ratios between different scales. Results: The new wavelet indices as a single parameter predictor accounted for 46.6% of the performance variance of changes in muscle power and the log FInsm5 and MAV as a two factor combination predictor accounted for 49.8%. On the other hand, they showed the highest robustness in presence of additive white Gaussian noise for different signal to noise ratios (SNRs). Conclusions: The sEMG wavelet indices proposed may be a useful tool to map changes in muscle power output during dynamic high-loading fatiguing task.

On Full Orthogonal Designs in Order 72

Journal of Combinatorial Mathematics and Combinatorial Computing

We find new full orthogonal designs in order 72 and show that of 2700 possible OD(72; s1, s2, s3, 72-s1-s2-s3) 335 are known, of 432 possible OD(72; s1, s2, 72-si-s2) 308 are known. All possible OD(72; s1, 72 -s1) are known.

Trimming the fat in acute ischemic stroke: an assessment of 24-h CT scans in tPA patients

International journal of stroke : official journal of the International Stroke Society, 2015

International management of acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous tissue plasminogen activator frequently includes 24-h head imaging. These recommendations stem from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) clinical trial protocol regarding the risk of intracerebral hemorrhage post-tissue plasminogen activator administration. Follow-up computed tomography scans on select patients, however, may not effect clinical management, resulting in unnecessary radiation exposure and healthcare costs. Our study questions the utility of routine 24-h computed tomography imaging and looks at the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale as a possible clinical screen for selecting candidates for 24-h imaging. Such a tool would result in decreased radiation exposure to the patient and decreased cost to the hospital. Consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke given intravenous tissue plasminogen activator between June 2008 and December 2011 were retro...

Applying Minimum Travel Cost Approach on 43–Nodes Travelling Salesman Problem

The minimum travel cost is a new approach to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). The TSP library website (TSPLIB) provides several TSP problems with their best known solutions as a means to test any proposed algorithm. The present paper successfully applies the minimum travel cost algorithm to the 43 nodes P43problem which has the value of 5620 for its best known solution. This paper provides the details of the solution for value of 5621.
