A New Technique for Lathing Lyophilized Cornea for Refractive Keratoplasty (original) (raw)
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1982
Abstract
ABSTRACT A method of prelathing lyophilized corneal tissue at room temperature for refractive keratoplasty is described. A solution was developed that preserves corneal transparency and allows adhesion of corneal tissue to modified plastic bases during lyophilization and lathing. Intracorneal implantation and keratophakia with lyophilized corneal tissue in two series of cats were performed. Transparent grafts and technically satisfactory results were obtained. This procedure could greatly simplify and render more accurate refractive keratoplasty procedures requiring lathed donor corneas.
