L'anglophobie est morte! Vive l'antiaméricanisme? Continuités et ruptures d'un anti-hégémonisme"/ Is antiamericanism the son of anglophobia? (original) (raw)

Abstract
Many press articles were dedicated to the French-American relations in the recent years, especially to anti-americanism (or (antiamericanism) in France. There seems to be a mainstream trend considering that a divorce between both countries and policies cannot be avoided. The French perception doesn’t take into account the dangers of uncontrolled negative feelings abroad perceived as hostile; on the other side, there is a strong propension to consider the French reactions towards the American policy under Bush Administration as the result of mere jealousy. None of these visions are sufficient however to analyse the relations between France and the United States today. The comparison with anglophobia 100 years ago can help defining the true nature of these relations. Whereas the use of the term "antiamericanism" tends to be overused, the tension relies more on different visions of globalization today, than on passions or feelings.
