Understanding Goal Ontology Model to Achieve Organization Goal Conformance

This paper proposes a modelling concept for the organizational goals as a tool to evaluate organization data conformance to achieve the organization goal. This refer to the important in assisting the organization to utilize the organization data and information from the vast amount of data for decision making which will be in line with the organization’s goals. The paper has two aims. The first aim is to develop a model based on organizational goal elements such as the main goal, sub-goals, actions and tasks. A formal ontology is developed to specific role between the organization goal elements. The second aim is to develop a metric model to interpret organization data in relation to the organization’s goal. We apply a case study to evaluate our model development and metric development. Recent developments in the organization goals conformance using ontology
Organizational goals serve as the most important achievement target in every organization. Even though some researchers have developed the concept of the organization goals, but structuring the organization goals model is always questionable by the way it is being used. In this paper, we propose ontology to develop a unified model for the organization goals structure. We review the recent literature on the organization modelling and ontology development as an effort to evaluate the organization goals using a met-rics for the achievement of the organization goals. We suggest that the metrics is important to identify the relevant organization data in relation to the organization goals conformance. In order to achieve this purpose, we investigate various associated concepts and organize the literature based on the organization goals, organization ontology and metrics model. We observe our proposed models are important for domain experts and entrepreneurs to evaluate the relevant organization data and to assist them in decision making. In summary, the contribution of this survey may serve as a first step in understanding the evaluation of the organization data for the achievement of the organization goals.

The data warehouse (DW) systems design involves several tasks such as defining the DW schemas and the ETL processes specifications, and these have been extensively studied and practiced for many years. However, the problems in heterogeneous data integration are still far from being resolved due to the complexity of ETL processes and the fundamental problems of data conflicts in information sharing environments. Current approaches that are based on existing software requirement methods still have limitations on translating the business semantics for DW requirements toward the ETL processes specifications. This paper proposes the Requirement Analysis Method for ETL processes (RAMEPs) that utilize ontology with the goal-driven approach in analysing the requirements of ETL processes. A case study of student affair domain is used to illustrate how the method can be implemented.

Ontology based Data Mining- A Contribution to Business Intelligence

Marketing departments handles with a great volume of data which are normally task or marketing activity dependent. This requires the use of certain, and perhaps unique, specific knowledge background and framework. This article aims to introduce an almost unexplored research at marketing field: the ontological approach to the Database Marketing process. We propose a generic framework supported by ontologies and knowledge extraction from databases techniques. Therefore this paper has two purposes: to integrate ontological approach in Database Marketing and to create domain ontology with a knowledge base that will enhance the entire process at both levels: marketing and knowledge extraction techniques. Our work is based in the Action Research methodology. At the end of this research we use ontologies to pre-generalize the Database Marketing knowledge through a knowledge base.
Using Goal Modeling to Capture Competency Questions in Ontology-based Systems
Most of the available ontology engineering methodologies presuppose the existence of a set of questions which provide the objective and scope of the ontology under development. However, these so-called competency questions are not always clear from start. In this sense, such competency questions are comparable to system requirements, elicited and modeled during the requirements engineering stage of a software development process. Having this in mind, this work proposes the use of the Tropos methodology to help the ontology engineer reason and model competency questions. For that, he should follow the traditional Tropos process, starting with the early requirements activity to analyze the objectives of an organization. This initial stage is followed by the late requirements activity, in which the competency question are captured and linked to the organization's goals, following the goal modeling process. In this way, we aim at providing a methodology which will consistently drive the ontology engineer in developing an ontology from scratch.

Abstract Organizational change, whether it involves the development of a computerized system or the re-engineering of business processes, is a purposive activity driven by the goals of the involved stakeholders. Its effectiveness depends on being able to make good decisions about what goals to pursue and on selecting the appropriate strategies for achieving the desired goals. This paper presents an analysis of existing goal modeling methods in terms of their focus, cognitive and social approach.

In this paper, we work towards an approach to establish a connection between the goal domain and the enterprise architecture elements that are responsible for the satisfaction of goals in an enterprise. We observe this connection is far from trivial, requiring us to consider the semantics of goals, the semantics of many other enterprise elements as well as the nature of the relation between goals and these other enterprise elements. This challenge is here addressed by considering several ontological accounts for the enterprise discussed in the literature. Since no single ontological account of the enterprise covers the range of phenomena to analyse the alignment of strategic and operational aspects of the enterprise, we have conducted a survey of enterprise ontology approaches. The semantic layer established through the survey is used in the analysis of the relations between strategic and operational aspects of a healthcare organisation in a case study we have conducted. The case study illustrates how ontological theories in the established literature may support enterprise architecture analysis, in particular, facilitating the alignment between the goals and the operational elements of an organisation (such as processes, roles, and resources).
A Decision Making Ontology Building Process for Analytical Requirements Elicitation

Despite their potential in analytical requirements elicitation, goaloriented approaches in Data warehouse (DW) projects have not been well exploited. The main difficulties in their adoption is the lack of assistance in goal elicitation and the lack of support in generating suitable information for decision-making, from the defined goals. To address these limitations, in this paper we introduce a decision-making ontology that formalizes the semantic relationships among the decision makers' goals and explicitly relates the decision-making knowledge to the goals. In addition, this ontology is enriched with a set of queries and inference rules that provide for an automatic generation of suitable analytical requirements from the goals fulfilling any business process that the decision maker cares to analyze.
