Benefits And Disadvantages Of Games in Vocabulary Learning for Young Learner

As we know, learning a foreign language or a second language has become prevalent in many countries. It began to be taught in various schools in Indonesia, even a general lesson that must be studied. not only that the second language began to be taught in elementary school children as a provision or facilitate learning advanced language. The most commonly learned language learning is about how to make sentences (writing) as well as speaking (Speaking). These two components can be effective when based on a strong and many vocabulary. Vocabulary is the basic part and a key element to learn any language. Without vocabulary, children or someone will not be able to get an idea or understand what others are talking about. But there is little problem in memorizing vocabulary in children, namely the lack of habituation of the environment and also the boring memorizing method. Some methods to understand a fun vocabulary one of them is to use the game method. Antonaros and Couri (2003:6) Explain that games in foreign language classroom encourage and develop socialization, cooperating with other , learning self discipline , respecting rules and peer teaching and cooperative learning. Why is that so that the vocabulary does not look boring and seen too many words to be stored into memory. In this article the author tries to summarize what kind of games can be used to create a fun yet effective vocabulary learning, how to defect and when to use it.

THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GAMES IN ENHANCING VOCABULARY FOR STUDENTS AT A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY

In recent years, teaching English has become a compulsory subject at schools, colleges, and universities. That is the reason why teaching and learning English effectively play a crucial role in the development of educational system. However, students seem to be weak in communicative skills due to they are lack of English vocabulary knowledge. The aim of this paper is to seek out the evidence to prove that teaching games are very helpful in the language classroom because this method helps to improve and increase students‟ vocabularies. The results show that language games not only enhanced students‟ lexical knowledge but also made the lesson more enjoyable, students became motivated in learning English and had plenty of interactions with teachers and classmates. The study suggests that before employing games in the language classroom, teachers should choose appropriate materials, levels, contexts, topics, time allowance for games.

The Effect of Learning Vocabulary Through Games for Undergraduate and ESL Learners

Vocabulary learning through games is an exciting approach that can imprint longlasting learning experience. The second learners can benefit from the hands-on activities practiced in class which can enhance retention of new words. Language can be learned faster and easier by having fun in class that can also reduce the 'anxiety' factor in ESL students. This paper aims to examine the impact of vocabulary learning through games to get the educational benefits and how to incorporate games in a language classroom to enhance student learning. Moreover, this research paper analyzes the Vocabulary learning through games and activities for undergraduates and ESL students through. The games were developed Language skills, Vocabulary development. A quantitative survey questionnaire was adopted for this research. This research was conducted by 35 undergraduate students through convenient sampling techniques to analyze the effect of learning vocabulary through games. The study finding shows that English language is easy to learn by different by creative activities, physical games there is a quotation of Benjamin Franklin "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember". "Involve me and I learn." It draw attention of ELT learner's motivation through game type activities that could be easy to enhance their ability and for learning English language because language cannot be learned it needs to do practice and efforts from teachers, learners and as well as exposure to the target language.

THE EFFECT OF GAMES ON VOCABULARY RETENTION

Learning English has become a necessity during this century. Consequently, it is utilized in different institutions in Palestine such as schools, universities, hospitals, etc. Therefore, it is taught in schools by using different methods. Thus, in order to comprehend the language efficiently, it has to be taught in creative and interesting methods and using games inside the classroom in one of these methods. The study aims to figure out the efficiency of using games inside classrooms and to answer the research questions. The study was conducted during the first semester of 2018/2019, in which 20 participants were enrolled. The researchers collected data using pretest; posttest and class observation. The study continued for two months. In that, students were introduced to unfamiliar vocabulary through games. The findings of the research revealed the efficiency of utilizing games in the educational process. Accordingly, games help students to retain unfamiliar vocabulary, to associate new information with their surroundings and to develop their language and communicative skills.

Teaching vocabulary through games- a sanguine step

Vocabulary is predominant in improving one's communicative skill. Language is more powerful when it is being used perfectly. Teachers should consider the background of learners and aid them to learn and develop their vocabulary in many interesting ways especially through games. This paper deals with a productive and a logical study, done on a set of college students to improve the vocabulary of first generation learners at college level through games. Learners should be exposed to develop basic skills namely listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The Impact of Educational Games on Enhancing Elementary Stage Students' Acquisition and Retention of English Vocabulary

Learning EFL vocabulary is a difficult task so that teachers try as much as possible to facilitate it for their learners. One of the best strategies that can be used is educational games strategy. The goal of this research is to check the effectiveness of using the educational games strategy in enhancing English vocabulary acquisition and retention at the First stage of basic education pupils. The study adopted the quasi-experimental pre-post test control / experimental group design. The study sample consisted of 40 pupils in sixth elementary grade and was equally divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control one. Students of the experimental group learnt vocabulary through the educational game strategy, while students in the control group received regular instruction. Tools of the study included a pre-post vocabulary achievement test and a text course for grade six named Get Ready 6. The students submitted to a pre-post vocabulary achievement test and the results indicates that there is a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the pre/ post-test of English vocabulary achievement in favor of the experimental group.

Teaching vocabulary through games: A comparative study of the 4th and the 7th grades

Having the essential role of games in vocabulary teaching in mind, the study focused on the effectiveness of games. Thus, the present study aimed to find out whether there is a difference between the 4th grades and the 7th grades in terms of teaching vocabulary through games. A comparative research design was applied within the study. Pre-tests, post-tests, course-books, workbooks, games and worksheets were used as instruments. The experimental groups were taught through games and the control groups were taught through current-curriculum methods. After the implementation process, the pre and post-tests' scores were calculated. According to the results, vocabulary instruction through games was found to be more efficient than the current-curriculum methods for the 4th grades, no significant difference was found within the groups of the 7th grades, and using games to teach vocabulary in the 4th grades was found to be more effective compared to using games to teach vocabulary in the 7th grades. Studying the previous research, it has been seen that there is no comparison between primary and secondary school students' vocabulary learning levels through games. Therefore, the results of the study are expected to shed light on this lack in the field.

The aim of this research is to investigate whether the games techniques can improve the students‟ vocabulary in the English learning. This research was conducted the second class of SMK Almamater Telaga by taking 30 students as a sample. The method used is quasi experimental one with research design one group of pre-test and posttest design. The data were collected from a test, notably vocabulary multiple choice test consists of 35 items. Each item has been analyzed by using item analysis in order to take its validity and reliability. The results indicate that the students‟ vocabulary can be expanded by using the Games technique. It is proved by the result of statistical analysis in which the criteria used to verify the hypothesis of this research was received Ho if t count< t test. Developing and applying a foreign language vocabulary learning and practice game: The effect of VocaWord, 2013

The present study reports on the findings related to the effect of playing a vocabulary learning and practicing game in elementary English classes at university level, and the attitudes and beliefs of the subjects about playing games with the purpose of learning the foreign language. The subjects were 70 first year university students from two different departments at the faculty of education. A vocabulary quiz that was prepared in accordance with the curriculum and the course book was applied as pre and post test. The results revealed that the experimental group subjects have doubled the vocabulary improvement rate of the control group subjects. The findings demonstrated that there was a slight difference between the performance of the female and male students in favour of the female subjects. The findings revealed positive thoughts and beliefs related to the game they played during their course, and using games in language classes. We have concluded that there is a need for more language games that might concentrate on the different aspects of learning a foreign language, and that the educational philosophies, methodologies, and techniques as well as the language curriculums should be rearranged and modified to meet the needs and interests of the new age learners.
