Bibliometric analysis of Annals of Library and Information Studies (2002-2006), 2008
MANLIBNET 9th Annual National …, 2008
Bibliometrics is an emerging thrust area of research and has now become a well established part of information research and a quantitative approach to the description of documents. Bibliometrics has grown out of the realization that literature is growing and changing out of a rate with which no librarian or information worker equipped with traditional bibliographic skills and methods could keep abreast. The present study shows that journals are most cited form of communication amongst the library and information scientists and the source journal is the most cited publication. The bibliometric analysis of the journal "Annals of Library and Information Studies (2002-2006)" shows a trend of growth in contributions and average number of contributions is 21.4 per volume. Majority of the library and information scientists prefer to do collaborative research and contribute their papers jointly. Most of the contributions are on Bibliometrics (36.45%). IT & Digital technologies in Libraries have also got sufficient papers. The institutional and geographical distribution of contributions is calculated. Most of the contributions are with citations. Majority of the library and information scientists have cited journals in large number (50.15%) while books comes on second with 273 (19.96%) citations. 'Annals of Library & Information Studies' occupies the 1st rank & 'Scientometrics' occupies the 2nd rank in the ranked list of cited journals.
The literature of bibliometrics, scientometrics, and informetrics
Scientometrics, 2001
Since Vassily V. Nalimov coined the term 'scientometrics' in the 1960s, this term has grown in popularity and is used to describe the study of science: growth, structure, interrelationships and productivity. Scientometrics is related to and has overlapping interests with bibliometrics and informetrics. The terms bibliometrics, scientometrics, and informetrics refer to component fields related to the study of the dynamics of disciplines as reflected in the production of their literature. Areas of study range from charting changes in the output of a scholarly field through time and across countries, to the library collection problem of maintaining control of the output, and to the low publication productivity of most researchers. These terms are used to describe similar and overlapping methodologies. The origins and historical survey of the development of each of these terms are presented. Profiles of the usage of each of these terms over time are presented, using an appropriate subject category of databases on the DIALOG information service. Various definitions of each of the terms are provided from an examination of the literature. The size of the overall literature of these fields is determined and the growth and stabilisation of both the dissertation and non-dissertation literature are shown. A listing of the top journals in the three fields are given, as well as a list of the major reviews and bibliographies that have been published over the years.
The 2 nd International Conference on Integrated Information New application of bibliometrics
2013
This article presents the potential of bibliometrics as a more functional practice in public libraries. Bibliometrics laws and models are seen as a way of redefining and widening of the role of the library. The news applications of bibliometrics in library practice is motivated by ambitions to provide more complete services in public libraries, as well as to increase the visibility and status of libraries, not the least in relation to good management. The usage of Bibliometrics in public libraries is also seen as a way of widening of the professional profile of librarianship. The new applications should, however, also be considered from the viewpoint of potential changes in how libraries are perceived when using a monitoring function through bibliometric analyses of research performance in addition to traditional service oriented functions. © 2012 The Authors. Bibliometric assessment is the combination of mathematical and statistical analysis of scholarly communication. This method has been applied to assess the strength, trends, and pattern of the published scholarly literature. Library and information professionals have been using this technique to calculate the academic contents and provide quantitative analysis. The purpose of this study is to analyze the research output published in Annals of Library and Information Studies (ALIS) during the period of 2009 to 2015. The data of this study have been downloaded from the website of ALIS. This result of the study provides the growth of publications by year, country-wise distribution of articles, the pattern of authorship, lengths of articles, and list of productive authors during the period under study. Keywords: Bibliometric, Annals of Library and Information Science
pakistan library association Journal, 2014
The branch of library science concerned with the application of mathematical and statistical analysis to bibliography; the statistical analysis of books, articles, or other publications is known bibliometrics. The prime objective of this study is to examine the research productivity of an international journal of library & information science (IJLIS) and published online. This study discloses/examines the papers published during the period of 2009 to 2014. Country's wise contributions, author's collaborations, lengths of papers and individual author's contribution during the period have been analyzed and included in this current paper.
International Research - Journal of Library and Information Science: A Bibliometric Analysis
2017
Paper studies bibliometric analysis of Indian open access LIS journal for five years from 2011 to 2015. Total 218 published articles were examined and analyzed for distribution of articles, authorship pattern, degree of collaboration, and geographical distribution of articles has been done. Inferences has been drawn from the analysis that journal prevalent two authorship patterns with 0.66 degree of collaboration, India as top most contributor of the articles for the journal and amongst foreign countries Nigeria is the highest contributor. Tamil Nadu is the highest contributor amongst Indian states and union territories. Journal Articles were found most prevalent source of information for writing research papers and used as citation. Calculated half-life of the journal citations found to be 9.54 years.

Background In most academic disciplines journals play an important role in disseminating findings of research among the disciplinary community members. Furthermore, based on Bradford's Law of scattering, one can assume that previous research in many journals, but also that there are some 'core' journals. Aim This thesis aims to compile a comprehensive list of journals of relevance to Library and Information Science (LIS). A method to rank journals is introduced; key characteristics of the disciplines journals are discussed; and databases are compared. Method A list of LIS journals was created by combining the journal listings of secondary sources indexing the field's literature. These sources were: INFODATA, Current Contents, Library and Information Science Abstracts (LISA), Library Information Science Technology Abstracts (LISTA), Information Science and Technology Abstracts (ISTA), Library Literature and Information Science (LLIS), Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), Academic Search Premier, and Expanded Academic ASAP, and the Elektronische Zeitschriften Bibliothek. Journals were ranked by the number of occurrences in multiple databases. Results A comprehensive list of 1,205 journals was compiled. 968 journals are active, mostly published in English in the USA and UK. Fifteen core journal could be identified. Databases have between five to 318 journals in common. Overlap with a wide range of subjects exist, especially Computing Studies, and Business and Economics. Conclusion The extensive journal list can contribute to understanding of scholarly communication within the LIS discipline and provide academics and practitioners with a better understanding of journals within the discipline. Journal could be ranked by occurance in databases.
Indian Journal of Information Sources and Services, 2019
This article highlights the research productivity and scholarly communication of library and information science articles during the year 2008-2017 indexed by the Web of Science database. This analytical study consisting of 56 reports and data downloaded from the Web of Science (Clarivate Analysis) database. Scientometric research mainly focused on the range of research productivity in the field of library science in a specific period. To evaluate the Publication years, to identify the authors who wrote, the more articles, which journals published most of the relevant subject articles, which institute and country have mostly involved in a particular subject; all these are to mainly discussed in this study. The present study considered as a useful tool for effective allocation of research funds in the research community and the academic world of library and information science to enhance the research process.
