An unusual microorganism, Aerococcus viridans, causing endocarditis and aortic valvular obstruction due to a huge vegetation (original) (raw)
Aerococcus viridans is an uncommon pathogen, and endocarditis due to A. viridans is quite rare. A case is presented involving a 44-year-old woman with persistent atrial fibrillation and rheumatic valvular heart disease who was admitted for symptoms including fever and progressive shortness of breath. Echocardiographic assessment revealed a vegetation on the aortic valve causing significant obstruction, leading to surgical intervention despite initial antibiotic therapy. This case represents a unique instance of A. viridans endocarditis with associated aortic obstruction necessitating surgical treatment.
