Post Colonial Biblical Criticism in Latin America
Liberation Theology as practiced in Latin America did not suddenly arrive unannounced, but was the product of other theologies coupled with the socio-political frustrations of the poor. This paper provides an overview of five theologies listed by Gustavo Gutierrez in his treatise "A Theology of Liberation". The overview includes the major theologians, Biblical references, Vatican documents, and the Biblical interpretations of the Solentiname commune.
This paper is an attempt to show the different trends of Biblical research in Brazil, both academic milieu and other group or institutional efforts to Biblical research. Clearly is not possible to approach all trends in details, therefore, we shall highlight the main trends, their representatives and way of biblical reading. Furthermore, we shall offer a concise assessment about the gaps on Brazilian biblical research and the current trends that are proposed as well, and the prospects that are more relevant to continuity of research in Brazil. There is an indisputable truth that Brazilian biblical research is very rich in trends and possibilities.
Biblical Reflection on Latin American Theology
Latin American theological movements are formed not only in the context of political struggle between the poor and the rich but also in the perspective of how God views the poor. Liberation theology and misión integral or integral mission reflect the historical struggles against structures of domination, economic dependence, and post-war challenges to the Christian faith.1 This paper reflects on the theological movements in Latin America through the lens of Jeremiah 22:16, which says, “He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?” declares the Lord.”
Review of Biblical Literature, 2020
Texturas Bíblicas demonstrates Trebolle’s diverse scholarly background through a series of chapters loosely associated to the idea that the Bible is a transplanted classic whose origins begin in the ancient Near Eastern world and whose interpretations are ever so vibrant in the modern West. The twenty-eight individual essays are divided into four appropriately titled parts: “Del Oriente Antiguo a la Biblia,” “La Biblia: Literatura, Historia, Religión,” “De la Biblia a la Literatura Moderna,” and “La Biblia de Oriente a Occidente.”
