This study aims to conduct a preliminary investigation to determine the topic to be focused in developing Virtual Laboratory For Biology (VLab-Bio). Samples involved in answering the questionnaire are form five students (equivalent to A-Level) and biology teachers. Time and economical resources for the setting up and construction of scientific laboratories can be solved with the adaptation of virtual laboratories as an educational tool. Thus, it is hoped that the proposed virtual laboratory will help students to learn the abstract concepts in biology. Findings show that the difficult topic chosen is Cell Division and the learning objective to be focused in developing the virtual lab is "Describe the application of knowledge on mitosis in cloning".
VIRTUAL LABORATORY - A viable and sustainable alternative to traditional physical laboratory
Journal of Educational Research and Development, 2020
The need to provide a viable and readily available remedy to the dearth created in the laboratory skills of our students and put an end to the production of poorly equipped science scholars through a platform that readily meets the educational needs of today's learners and provides freedom from the limitations and constraints of the traditional physical laboratory is the drive behind this work. The paper explores various opinion of science scholars around the world on the use of virtual laboratory as a viable alternative and complementary mode to the traditional physical laboratory. Reports and findings from various studies that support the use of virtual laboratory in the classroom are cited. However, contrary opinions that discriminate against its use as a complete alternative are also highlighted. The paper further looks into the usability attributes and characteristics that should feature in the virtual laboratory programmes so as to realize its intended objectives. The conclusion drawn asserts that virtual laboratory is a true alternative capable of providing the learners with the learning benefits that accrue from laboratory activities and recommendations that would aid the effective use of virtual laboratory are made.
The lab applications, whic4h were started to be applied through mid 19 th century, not only provide a new point of view but also bring about a new dimension to the lessons. At early times they were used to prove theoretical knowledge but lately they turned into environments where students freely discover knowledge as an individual or in groups. The activities that have come up with the recent form of labs substantially contributed to training ideal students for constructivist approach, who research, inquire, test, seek solutions, wear scientist shoes and deeply reason about the concept of concern.
VIRTUAL LABORATORY -AN UNAVOIDABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR REAL LABORATORY
The challenges that face our educational system today can be traced to inadequate funding which is now been contested by growing demands for educations at levels and in every part of the nation than ever before. Most conspicuous of these accumulated and mounting glitches is the lack of or inadequate learning facilities in our schools from pre-primary to tertiary level. This paper observed the state of learning resources in our schools most especially the science and technology speciality reminiscence of inadequate funding of the educational industry. It furthered on the need to provide an education that takes learners beyond reading and writing to acquisition of skills and attitude development that enable young scholars to learn, unlearn and relearn as the need arise through the provisions of new computer technologies such as virtual laboratory. The paper explores various opinions of science scholars around the world on the use of virtual laboratory as a viable alternative and complementary mode to the traditional physical laboratory. Reports and findings from various studies that support the use of virtual laboratory for learning are cited. The conclusion drawn asserts that virtual laboratory is truly capable of providing learners with the learning benefits that accrue from laboratory activities with less cost and risk. Among other recommendations that would aid the effective use of virtual laboratory, proprietors at all levels (federal, state, local, local district, organization and individuals) are enjoined to quickly embrace this new learning platform to provide a long-lasting remedy to the dearth created in the laboratory skills of our students.

With recent trends of using Information and Communication Technologies in education, virtual labs have become more prevalent in classrooms of most schools and universities, especially in South India. The purpose of this paper was to perform a comparative analysis of virtual learning components such as animations, simulations and real-time remotely controlled experiments. As a part of this study, we conducted a series of biotechnology virtual lab workshops for University-level users within India and collected feedback related to the usage of virtual labs via direct approach. The survey amongst the students and teachers suggested simulation-based labs were more preferred in enhancing teaching and learning strategy compared to graphics-mediated animations and remotely controlled experiments. This paper also reports some of the issues faced by virtual lab users. Studies indicated that even though the web-based technologies are a new venture in education, it still poses adaptability issues.
