Concepts in Sustainable Architecture and Critical Approaches on the Ecological Effect

Journal of International Social Research

The concept of sustainability in the 1970s is the result of human awareness for the environmental and the humanity issues, consist of cultural, social and economic problems. One of the most important goals of the sustainable development is to preserve nature and modify its perspective, and the manifestation of sustainable development in the environmental aspects is called sustainable architecture. Albeit the results of today's crises are well recognized, but the most of the presented solutions for environmental problems in a sustainable architecture seems to be ineffective and incomplete. Nevertheless, despite to the proposed solutions to the environmental problems, their approach to the nature keeps disconnected, and the eternal nature value remains non-restored. The purpose of this research is to seek for environmental theories of sustainable development and sustainable architecture. Thereby, it may complete its deficiencies by employing comparison of attitudes towards nature. In this way, this article firstly describes the goals of the sustainable development and sustainable architecture and secondly, it presents its solutions in order to identify its defects and can propose a more complete policy. Although sustainable development has ecological, economic and cultural-social roots, but, the role of the nature becomes more apparent with the search of the problems facing contemporary humans and their solution in the sustainable architecture. At the end of this paper, the nature and its broad meaning have been studied, which can determine the triple relationship of the human, the nature and the architecture. Considering the role of the human as well as architecture as a process that leads to sustainability, it will be the other important point in modifying the relationship between human, nature and architecture.

Green Architecture: A Concept of Sustainability

Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2016

In recent years, sustainability concept has become the common interest of numerous disciplines. The reason for this popularity is to perform the sustainable development. The Concept of Green Architecture, also known as "sustainable architecture" or "green building," is the theory, science and style of buildings designed and constructed in accordance with environmentally friendly principles. Green architecture strives to minimize the number of resources consumed in the building's construction, use and operation, as well as curtailing the harm done to the environment through the emission, pollution and waste of its components. To design, construct, operate and maintain buildings energy, water and new materials are utilized as well as amounts of waste causing negative effects to health and environment is generated. In order to limit these effects and design environmentally sound and resource efficient buildings; "green building systems" must be introduced, clarified, understood and practiced. This paper aims at highlighting these difficult and complex issues of sustainability which encompass the scope of almost every aspect of human life.

Principles of Sustainable Architecture Design in Crowded Residential Complexes with an Outlook to Resuscitation of Nature in Architecture

THE TURKISH ONLINE JOURNAL OF DESIGN, ART AND COMMUNICATION, 2016

Issue of sustainable development has been introduced as one of the most common and important issues throughout the world, turned to an important issue in all the specialized fields and encompassed economic, social, cultural and other aspects of human life. Sustainable development refers to a process during which the people of a country meet their needs and improve their life regardless of consuming the resources which belong to next generations. A growing world population has an adverse effect on the earth's natural settlements and urban sprawl has led to irresponsible consumption of energy, the gradual warming of the planet and the increase in environmental pollution. Yet, a high amount of energy loss derives from non-standard methods of buildings for heating and cooling and inconsistency with climatic conditions. Therefore, sustainable development and applied concepts for sustainable development have been consistent with aims and intentions of modern architecture, proposed as an effective factor to achieve aims of sustainability. This research is a qualitative study conducted via descriptive-analytical method. In this research, library sources have been used to examine principles of sustainable architecture design in crowded residential complexes with an outlook to resuscitation of nature in architecture.

A STUDY ON CONSISTENCY WITH PRINCIPLES OF GREEN ARCHITECTURE IN MASOULEH

Disruption and inappropriate influence of human on nature is a relatively new phenomenon relates to two major factors. First, population growth and second, demographic dominance over the nature. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and excessive exploitation of the natural resources, the nature has lost balance and the natural resources having been decayed. This has resulted to some imbalances relationship between man and the nature. Therefore, steps must be taken in order to enable man survives in a clean environment as without global environmental security, national and even social security sound nonsense. Respect for the environment and having knowledge about the ecology, topography and weather are required. Thus, a sustainable designing is not a formal style derived from transient conditions and emotions, rather it in itself consists of deep concepts about interaction between man, the nature and architecture. Accordingly, the present study using a library procedures and field method will compare principles of sustainable city and the city Masouleh as a traditional city. The main purpose of the study lays in familiarity with origin of the concept of sustainability, definition and recognition of principles of green architecture analyzes the Masouleh city as an exemplary of Iranian traditional classical cities. The results suggest that the Masouleh city is known most as a case of sustainable green architecture and urban development so that, it has responded to the environmental stimuli over time passage. As a result, the Masouleh city could be regarded as a proper model in line with future urban design in Iran. Key words: urban design, green architecture, sustainable development, Masouleh city

Sustainable Constructivism: Traditional vis-à-vis Modern Architecture Identification of Parameters that Contribute to the Genesis of Architectural Styles and Symbolism based on the Interpretations of Modern Theorists Through case Studies

Architectural design is the creation of a tangible mass of masonry, containing a meaningful space, collectively called as architecture and takes more than the thoughts and whims of an architect. The research paper discusses about the array of constraints that contribute to the formation of an architectural style and how they should be considered in all probable permutations and combinations for interpreting those architectural styles. Architectural symbolism and style has deep philosophical and meta physical roots. This paper initially discusses about the concept of architectural styles and symbolism, as propounded by different modern theorists. From these theories the prominent factors that contribute in the formation of different architectural styles and develop their independent components and symbologies are enlisted. Further the several elements of design-forces are identified from the prominent works and parameters are identified. These are validated in this paper with some ca...

Creativity in Sustainable Redesign for Existing Buildings by Using Green Architecture as a Contemporary Trend

The Academic Research Community Publication, 2018

With rapid climate changes in recent years, it has become important as it is necessary to think about a new concept of architecture that respects and considers the environment. To counter these changes, the concept of environmental and green architecture starters' theory has appeared as one of the applications of creative solutions in buildings. Architects then began turning it from a theoretical study on the method of the design of buildings and making them environment-friendly by reducing the consumption of resources to run the building and reduce damage to the environment due to Alanbosat and waste resulting from construction work. Environmental and green architecture does not just reduce the impact on the environment but also supports energy-efficient buildings, which achieves self-sufficiency within the building. It also provides energy production and exploits the optimal way efficiently and with equanimity. This paper aims to:-Highlight the importance of green architecture and sustainability in shape.-Reach a methodology to convert existing buildings into green buildings. Sustainability is a general principle in the eco-design which is one of the main objectives in contemporary design as one of the methods of protection for our environment and protect it from climatic repercussions which causes a non-environmentally friendly and considerate of others have construction and architecture. Green architecture trend as one of the sustainability applications in architecture has emerged and is designed to reduce energy consumption both in the stage of implementation or operation of the building later considering the lack of prejudice to the social and functional to needs, and green buildings take into account the full life cycle of the building since design began to implementation, operation and demolition and the mechanism to get rid and recycling of components. Aspect of Sustainable Development in Contemporary Architecture

2017

Modern architectural aesthetics is conditional on sustainable development as the basic principle of the balance between man and nature. Among the most complex problems of modern society are reduction of pollution and energy resource expenditure within the building sector. Most of the buildings are not built in accordance with the requirements of environmental protection, and are therefore energy-inefficient and costly to maintain. Problem solving requires implementation of certain design principles and application of different materials and systems for producing and saving energy. One of the most important aspects of the architecture is a selection of sustainable building materials that are least energy-intensive over their entire life cycles, the materials that can be recycled after use and reused in a new object. The aim of this study is to assess the basic architectural principles of sustainability as well as the selection of materials in order to preserve the environment and nat...
