Developing a Collaborative Virtual Reality Learning System
The study attempts to build a collaborative virtual reality learning system (CVRLS) for medical education. The CVRLSwas designed by using Xj3D and was based upon the imagination, interaction and immersion features of virtual reality (VR) and the benefits of collaborative learning. With the cross-platform feature and networking resources supports from Xj3D, CVRLS establishes a multiuser ,cross-platform collaborative virtual learning environment. Under this environment, learners and instructors are able to perform collaborative learning and engage in group discussions regardless of their locations and types of computer systems.
3D Virtual Learning Environment
International journal of engineering and advanced technology, 2019
Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is the learning through electronic media where teachers and students are not in the same place, but the gap is bridged by the use of technologies. The aim of this study is to develop a 3D virtual learning environment (3D VLE). The three objectives of this study are (i) to gather the requirements of 3D VLE, (ii) to design the 3D VLE, and (iii) to develop the 3D VLE. The method consists of five phases; (i) literature review, (ii) requirement gathering, (iii) design, (iv) development and (v) evaluation. The prototype is developed by using Open Simulator, SLOODLE and Moodle. Future work includes enhancement for 3D VLE such as using gesture recognition to control the avatar movement.
A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT FOR COLLABORATIVE DISTANCE LEARNING
In this work, we design and implement a 3D collaborative virtual environment (CVE) for distance learning (DL). After surveying current technologies and implementations supported by modern pedagogies, we noticed that current applications, particularly present web-based technologies or 2D-based technologies, do not adequately support our functional requirements of interaction, communication, and virtual community. We thus propose a new design for 3D CVEs, which are computer-enabled, virtual spaces where students can meet and interact with others, agents, virtual objects, and virtual environments to improve DLs. Our proposed system design is outlined by the current services used in online virtual communities. Its framework is designed with the major tools, including agents, virtual objects, and virtual environments to support 3D CVEs for DLs. The evaluation of the designed platform and its implementation will be performed in trials. We plan to evaluate the prototype of our designed pla...
THE DEVELOPMENT OF A VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT USING VIRTUAL REALITY TECHNOLOGY
Ayomide Onibokun, 2022
This is a report explains the details of development process of a virtual learning environment using virtual reality technology using air condition installation and a building construction work pile as the focus area. The main feature of this project is to have an overview of a construction process before using it physically; this project was built for virtual reality mode and desktop mode. A virtual learning environment, a user can navigate within the VR space and interact with objects in the virtual space.Interventions commonly take the form of questioning, listening, giving information, explaining some phenomenon, demonstrating a skill or process, testing understanding and capacity, and facilitating learning activities such as note taking, discussion, assignment writing, simulations and practice. Teaching involves creating an environment and engaging with others, so that they learn particular things. This can be anything from tying a shoe lace to appreciating the structure of a three-act play. Teaching has three key elements which are focus, knowledge and the ability to engage people in learning.
Using 3D graphics for learning and collaborating online
2005
Today, the use of e-learning is common place. E-learning courses are now becoming prevalent on the Internet. They offer students great flexibility as well as a wide range of subjects. Traditionally the majority of these courses provide learners with text-based material and allow them to contact the course tutor via email. Virtual Reality (VR) has a lot to offer the e-learning paradigm. 3D virtual worlds can give people a sense of belonging and, as they mimic the real world, they are a natural way to access information. This paper describes CLEV-R, a collaborative learning environment with Virtual Reality. This environment uses VR and multimedia to deliver learning material to students in a stimulating and motivating manner. By using a suite of communication tools, students can learn, collaborate and socialise on line.
Aspects of a collaborative learning environment using distributed virtual environments
2001
A decisive factor for new technologies is always the added value with respect to the efficiency and capacity of traditional technologies. This also is true when considering the impact of new technologies in training applications. New types of applications have been developed along the last few years to incorporate information technology in the learning environment. The growing need for communication, visualisation and organisation features in the field of learning and training environments, the e-learning approach, has led to the application of virtual reality and the use of multiuser real-time communication platforms to support these needs. This paper presents the first approach of such a system as well as useful technologies and standards for its implementation.
The use of 3D virtual learning environments in the learning process
2009
Several research works in literature refer to the use of 3-D virtual environments in distant learning (Kirriemuir, 2008; Kahiigi et Al., 2008; de Freitas, 2006; de Freitas, 2008) .Researchers, educational institutes and organizations confirm the usefulness of such an educational environment, either by developing 3-D environments tailored to their needs, or by exploiting existing infrastructure and platforms. This paper presents an overview of modern 3-D platforms and examines whether and to what extent they can enhance the learning process in secondary education. Moreover, in order to achieve a better understanding of the possibilities offered by these environments and of the difficulties hidden in the successful integration into the educational process, we run a course using an open source 3-D platform as the main collaborative distant educational environment. More specifically, we design two versions of the same course: one that takes advantage of the new environment in order to a...
Collaborative Virtual Reality Usage in Educa- tional and Training Process
2020
This paper focuses on a utilization of advanced virtual reality approaches and technologies as especially progressive tools in the context of online education, training and testing. The purpose of the utilization is to allow easier, faster and more attractive education and training in the areas containing topics and concepts that are not easy to comprehend or that are too expensive to be carried out in the real world. The paper explores collaborative virtual reality and its role in online education, primarily from the LIRKIS G-CVE utilization point of view. LIRKIS G-CVE is a web-based collaborative virtual reality system, based on the A-Frame and Networked-Aframe software solutions. LIRKIS G-CVE is described and three of its educational and training applications are presented: virtual environments for a university course dealing with virtual reality, an environment for patient rehabilitation and another one for an industrial training. Plans for LIRKIS G-CVE utilization in elementary...

3D Virtual Learning Environments
Advances in Game-Based Learning
Heated debates involving reforms in the educational system are becoming more and more frequent in recent years, mostly due to the increasingly evident shortcomings in the educational system and its difficulties to evolve at the same pace as technological development. Since nowadays people spend much of their time interacting directly or indirectly with technological devices, one can think of using this involvement with educational purposes. Through this interaction people have easy and inexpensive access to a vast amount of information. In this sense, one can think of methodologies to improve education by focusing on the foundations of knowledge rather than the emphasis on the memorization of contents. Therefore, the aim of this work is to propose and validate an interactive content authoring system as well as a virtual classroom where lessons are taught by avatars in an attempt to make learning experience richer and more motivating to students.
