Preface Communication technologies have had a significant impact on human life and on culture throughout human history. As new technologies have been developed, various discussions raised about their effects on human beings. The effects of new technologies and innovations were poorly understood by people and intellectuals. For example, Socrates and then Plato had raised the alarm about how the invention of writing weakened the mind and destroyed people's memories. And then the invention of printing press was criticized at its time as a threat to culture, society and morality. Similar concerns and oppositions have been raised by invention of electronic media. Many intellectuals have remarkably considered television as a harmful means for people and public life. Today similar evaluations, criticism and thoughts are raised by emergence of new media. Nowadays social scientists, media professionals, psychologists and many intellectuals are studying on the effects of digital technology in human life. Digital transformation, digital culture, digital society, network society, artificial intelligence etc. are the new concepts introduced into our terminology. Now we try to analyze and understand this new era that is defined by these terms. Opportunities and threats are all together; there are advantages and disadvantages. The academic and intellectual circles are in a big dilemma. On one hand, there will be great advantages for humanity, but on the other hand, it is the new technological period which has the potential to cause major wounds in human and social life. We also wanted to discuss this dilemma in various aspects in the sixth International Communication Days. Therefore, we have identified the main theme of this year's Communication Days as Digital Transformation. With the 150 papers to be presented at the symposium, many media-oriented dimensions of digital transformation are being discussed. The sixth International Communication Days are held with the participation of national and international speakers. The symposium was prepared with a devoted work of a strong team. The papers presented to the symposium were evaluated by a scientific advisory committee composed of academicians who were reputed nationally and internationally. The symposium organizing committee successfully managed all stages of the symposium with a full team spirit. I would especially like to thank Vice Dean, Lecturer Dr.
In this study, the effect of the blast furnace slag which is an industrial waste, on physical and mechanical properties of concrete were investigated. For this purpose, concrete mixes were prepared by substituting the Portland cement in the rates of 0, 10, 20 and 30% (by weight) with the blast furnace slag. For each mixture 3 number of 15x15x15 cm cubic specimens were casted. Unit weight, water absorption, capillarity, ultrasonic pulse velocity and compressive strength tests were performed on the specimens after the 90 th day curing period. Based on the test results, an increase were observed on the water absorption and capillarity values although a decrease were observed on the unit weight, ultrasonic pulse velocity and compressive strength values of the concretes obtained by substituting the blast furnace slag.
