Improvement of life quality in the developed nations has systematically generated an increase in the life expectancy. A statistic studies curried out by the French national institute of statistic and economic studies (INSEE) shows a new distribution of age classes in France. In fact, almost one in three people will be over 60 years in 2050, against one in five in 2005, and France will have over 10 million of people over 75 years and over 4 million of people over 85 years. Nevertheless, the increasing number of elderly person implies more resources for aftercare, paramedical care and natural assistance in their habitats. The current healthcare infrastructure in those countries is widely considered to be inadequate to meet the needs of this increasingly older population. In this case a permanent assistance is necessary wherever they are, healthcare monitoring is a solution to deal with this problem and ensure the elderly to live safely and independently in their own home for as long a...
Elderly People Telemonitoring in an Integrated Smart House Environment
In this paper, we explore automatic in-home healthcare monitoring by conducting a study of professionals who currently perform in-home healthcare monitoring, by combining and synchronizing various telemonitoring modalities, under a data synchronization and multimodal data fusion platform FL-EMUTEM (Fuzzy Logic Multimodal Environment for Medical Remote Monitoring). This platform incorporates algorithms that process each modality and providing a technique of multimodal data fusion which can ensures a pervasive in-home health monitoring for elderly people based on fuzzy logic.

Fuzzy Logic-Emerging Technologies and Applications 20 validated from end to end, through their hardware and software. The first subsystem is Anason (Rougui et al., 2009) with its set of microphones that allow sound remote monitoring of the acoustical environment of the elderly. The second subsystem is RFpat (Medjahed et al., 2008), a wearable device fixed on the elderly person, which can measure physiological data (cardiac frequency, activity or agitation, posture and fall detection sensor). The last subsystem is a set of infrared sensors and domotic sensors like contact sensors, temperature sensors, smoke sensors and several other domotic sensors for environment conditions monitoring (Medjahed et al., 2008). This fuzzy logic approach allowed us to recognize several activities of daily living (ADLs) for ubiquitous healthcare. The decision of this multimodal data fusion platform is sent to a remote monitoring center to take action in the case of distress situation. 2. CompanionAble project The CompanionAble project aim to provide the synergy of Robotics and Ambient Intelligence technologies and their semantic integration to provide for a care-giver's assistive environment. This will support the cognitive stimulation and therapy management of the care-recipient. This is mediated by a robotic companion (mobile facilitation) working collaboratively with a smart home environment (stationary facilitation). There are widely acknowledged imperatives for helping the elderly live at home (semi)independently for as long as possible. Without cognitive stimulation support the elderly dementia and depression sufferers can deteriorate rapidly and the carers will face a more demanding task. Both groups are increasingly at the risk of social exclusion.
Deployment of a smart telecare system to carry out an intelligent health monitoring at home
2016
Information and Communication Technologies together appropriate reasoning tools can add value to current telecare systems, including smart tele-monitoring solutions to enhance the capability for identifying risk situations at home. Cooperation between Home Area Networks (HAN) and Body Area Networks (BAN) at home can provide smart systems to support effective health solutions for ageing people living alone, improving service quality and security to the users and relatives. This paper details the development of a reasoning platform to monitor situations of the person at home, and react in risk situations that demanding care support of remote careers. The system integrates BAN and HAN with intelligent agents, whose behavior is defined by ontologies and rules. The system manages environmental and user data to proactively detect risk situations, and dynamically adjust its behavior to trigger the adequate problem solve mechanisms. A development methodology was also adapted to sustain know...
Complex telemonitoring of patients and elderly people for telemedical and homecare services
2008
Abstract:-The paper presents a project that has as main goal researches, design and implementation of an electronicinformatics-telecom and scalable system, that allows the automatic and complex telemonitoring, everywhere and every time (at home, in hospitals, at work, of mobile subject etc, using several communication paths), in real time, of persons with chronic illnesses, of elderly people, of those having high medical risk and of those with neuro-locomotor disabilities.
Intelligent monitoring of elderly people
4th International IEEE EMBS Special Topic Conference on Information Technology Applications in Biomedicine, 2003., 2003
The aim of this article is to present our proposal for an intelligent monitoring of elderly people based on: the agent technology, a decision support system implemented using a description logic based system and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Agents technology allows us to customize the monitoring service and to distribute the global functionality of the system among several agents. We use the DAML+OIL description logic based system to describe an ontology that categorizes different anomalous situations. The reasoning mechanism provided by that system permits the detection of anomalous situations for many different user conditions. Finally, the use of PDAs allows us to offer an anywhere and anytime monitoring.
System Architecture of a Proactive Intelligent System to Monitor Health of Older Adults Living Alone
International Journal of Computing and Digital Systems, 2021
Worldwide improvements in the quality of life highlight immense need to have a remote health monitoring system that can provide critical biomedical data. This paper presents a low-cost health monitoring system, forming part of the Internet of Things (IoT), which aims at continuous, 24/7 monitoring of elderly people and disabled people. The system is implemented with a variety of sensors, for example, temperature, heart rate, and movement measurements, to observe a person's status. Doctors may also prescribe this system with a specific number and type of sensor, depending on a patient's condition. In a case study, three sensors measured the status of a person during the day. The measurements reflected the actions of the person as he/she relaxed or was active, in addition to monitoring his/her state of health. The observed data were recorded in a database that can be displayed by authorized caregivers. Results witnessed the efficacy of the proposed system. The proposed system finds enormous potential in giving remote healthcare facilities, especially to unaccompanied older adults.

AmIHomCare: a complex ambient intelligent system for home medical assistance
Proceedings of the 10th …, 2011
This paper presents an ambient intelligent system capable of monitoring and assisting human subjects at home. AmIHomCare not only monitors the vital signs of the patient or elderly people in attempt to identify a potential dangerous situation but it is also designed to ensure a personalized environment for the user. Other functions are offered: access control to restricted areas based on biometric recognition, gesture and object identification based on image retrieval and processing, mobile robot assistance, real time data processing, data logging and archiving, communication with a remote call center. The system is based on 4 independent modules which may cooperate if required by a specific situation. The core of the system is represented by the environment monitoring module where all the data from other modules is gathered and kept in a data base. The core also acts as a relay for alert messages that are being sent by the other modules (when detecting an emergency situation) to a call center. The medical personnel that arrives at patient's home has access to his/her medical history from the database. The results obtained so far show a correct proposed architecture, minimal adjustments need to be made when the system will be totally integrated.
