Investigating the effect of audio visual materials as warm-up activity in Aviation English courses on students' motivation and participation at high school level

This paper aims to analyze the effects of video use as an audio visual material as warm-up activity on students' motivation and participation in Aviation English courses at high school level in the viewpoint of English instructors. This paper is based on a qualitative study design in which focus group interview is used as the data collection procedure. The participants of the focus group interview are four instructors teaching Aviation English, teaching 10th graders in a state high school. It is a fact that the use of video like the other audio visual aids is a proper ice breaker and motivation tool for teenagers in today's modern world of technology. According to the analysis of the data collected by focus group interview, the findings, revealing the positive effect of video use on students' motivation and participation, are categorized and discussed within the scope of the study.

Revitalizing the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language Through the Use of Audiovisual Materials

The major objective of this exploratory research work is to try to shed light on the importance of the practice of audiovisual media (PAM) in the teaching of English as a foreign language (EFL). Although it is a practice almost known of everyone nowadays, the issue of its effectiveness in the learning of a foreign language continues to be subject to several controversies due to its difficulty to be assessed. However, based on the outcomes of the present exploratory study, it remains one of the ultimate teaching methods that can allow any learner of a foreign language to easily practice his target language. To carry out this research work, a methodological approach, based on the one hand on literature searchand the other hand on interviews, focus groups as well as classroom observations, was adopted.

Designing and Developing Video as an Instructional Media in English language Teaching Setting

Using video in educational context has been established by many scholars as an effective instructional media to support teaching and learning process. There have been numerous videos are available on social media platforms that can facilitate both teachers and students to easily access them as learning resources. However, the teachers are challenged to be able to provide their own learning resources, such as videos which are aimed to deliver the lessons in more contextual and authentic senses. In this regards, this study is aimed to describe the design and development process of creating a video as an instructional media in English language teaching context. This study worked on research and development (R&D) approach through ADDIE (Analysis, Designing, Developing, Implementing, and Evaluating) framework. Documentation, observation, and assessment were administered as data collection techniques to support the design and development of the video. As a result, this paper depicts the researchers' experiences on the design and development of a video lesson as well as the survey findings. Overall, ADDIE framework was found effective to guide the researchers in the design and development process of the video. Although the process was not a simple way to take, more efforts and time were invested to produce the instructional media. Implications of the findings for instructional design and recommendation for future research are also discussed. Audiovisual Material as a Means of Forming Aviation Subject Matter Competence of Aviation Translation Students

The paper researches the use of audiovisual material for formation of aviation subject matter competence of aviation translation students. The research involved a pedagogical experiment aimed at the verification of the hypothesis that systemic use of content-oriented audiovisual material accompanied by a specifically developed complex of training activities enhances students’ knowledge of the professionally relevant subject matter and skills in adequate use of aviation terminology and technical language, which visibly improves students’ professional competence as future translators in the aviation industry. Audio Visual Media and English Learners

Media is everywhere; it has become a part of our daily life. People today are better informed and more enlightened thanks to the service of the media. Complaints about its negative effects have been heard and even those who criticize media for its negative impact cannot ignore the fact that media can be used as an effective tool to educate, inform and entertain. For myriad reasons, Audio visual Media, especially videos are definitely acknowledged as one of the most effective tools in education an d training. The purpose of learning any language is to communicate effec tively and no communication is possible if one doesnt get a chance to communicate. It is natural that the demand for communication is high in this ever - changing world. And no doubt English language plays a major role in todays global communication. It is not a subject to be studied. It is rather a skill to be practised. Therefore, practical experience is necessary and any skill can be mastered only through practice. Participation really matters. Exercises those demand verbal interaction (writing as well a s speaking) will definitely exploit the verbal skills of any student. The course material for learning needs to be very creative as creative course material definitely yields better resu lts. Bearing in mind all these features and positive input of media in education, a detailed analysis of available resources and their role in improving the basic skills - listening, speaking and writing - has been attempted. Based on personal experience and feedback received from colleagues, this study aims at giving some pra ctical suggestion and tips on how to use Media in the classroom.

The Impact of Using Video in Developing English Language Proficiency

English learning is a complex and difficult procedure and can be a daunting task. The innovation of technology and communication has played an important role in enhancing and facilitating the efficiency of English language learning. Video is an example of audiovisual aids that has raised educators' attention around the world. Many instructive institutions have turned to use video because of being fun and interactive element and providing classes to improve their learners' English proficiency skills. This study aims to elicit Iraqi students' attitudes on using video to develop English learning. In addition, it aims to discover the impact of using video on learning English skills. A qualitative case study was used. Data was gathered during interviews. The results of this research indicate that the students were in favor of video's potential for developing English language proficiency. Video is a fun element to use, and most significant of all, the students feel that it is a new substitute way to learn English and needs to be taking more interest in the education system.

Using Pedagogic Video to Enhance English for Specific Purposes Teaching Program (ESP) for Saudi University Students: A New Prospective Approach

The optimized use of authentic videos is integral in language classrooms. However, the research concerning the use of videos for developing audio-visual reception, four language skills, and vocabulary are found to be lacking. This study, therefore, reviews the developments related to the use of video in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The main question of this study is: how does the pedagogic video contribute to improving English learner’s language skills? This study is beneficial for university teachers who teach content courses to Saudi students using specialized online video courses, science animations, presentations, and online video lectures. Developing an Instructional Model Assisted Audio Visual Media

Bahasa Indonesia teachers should be able to create an atmosphere of learning that can motivate participants who are in the middle of adolescence (12-14 years). Teachers can use an interesting media to help learners in uttering ideas. This study done to (1) analyze the developing an instructional model assisted audio visual media of descriptive in Bahasa Indonesia lesson of junior high school; and (2) examine the validity, feasibility and effectiveness of an instructional model assisted audio visual media of descriptive in Bahasa Indonesia Lesson of junior high school. This research was development research. This research used to produce an instructional model assisted audio visual media of descriptive in Bahasa Indonesia lesson of junior high school and simultaneously test the validity, feasibility, and effectiveness. This research used 4-D development model which consists of (1) define; (2) design; (3) develop; and (4) disseminate. This research revealed an instructional model assisted audio visual media of descriptive in Bahasa Indonesia lesson of junior high school in the form of model book, teacher manual, student manual, and audio visual media video had been valid from linguistic aspects, content and learning materials, literary, display and presentation; practical based on the questionnaire results for students and teachers and the results of observation of learning implementation; and effective seen from the observation of students' activities during learning using the model. Film Clips to Improve Listening Skills in Teaching English as a Foreign Language

A qualitative method and an exploratory research study were carried out to analyze the use of film clips to improve Module III students' listening skills at the Universidad Estatal Peninsula de Santa Elena language center. The aim was to analyze and establish the relevance of using audio-visual materials as communicative activities in which students participate in their teaching-learning process. There are many approaches and methods, such as Audio Lingual, which according to theories such as Cognitivism, prove that students are more attracted to learning through graphics in which they can understand the context of the situation. In addition, using film clips opens up opportunities for students to improve their pronunciation and communicate in a natural environment. It is foreseen that more studies are needed in order to implement activities that reinforce the advantages of this type of activity in which films play an important role.

Video as educational multimedia to teach English speaking

The aim of this research is to develop an educational multimedia in the form of video as one of media to teach speaking. Research and development design is used to produce an educational multimedia entitled Nginggris Narsis. Procedures of this research includes identification students and teachers need, planning and product design, product small scale tryout, validation of the expert, product revision, product large scale try out and revision, and dissemination. This video is used to teach the first grade students of Junior High School in Indonesia of which curriculum implemented is 2013 curriculum. The results show that NginggrisNarsis is an appropriate material to teach EFL learners in speaking, although there are still some weaknesses found within this video. Nginggris Narsis as educational media to teach speaking help both teachers and students in introducing English as a foreign language for Indonesian students.
