Examining the Significance and Impact of Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship has garnered a significant amount of attention over the last decade or two. With so much emphasis on economic and financial return, governments and commercial businesses often neglect or provide insufficient attention towards the social and natural environments. This recent surge in non-profit and social activity from social entrepreneurs is proving to be an effective means of doing business, stirring up much controversy amongst scholars along the way. This paper dives into the hotly debated definition of social entrepreneurship and examines the types of opportunities and challenges associated with new phenomenon. Then, the report concludes with a discussion on the complexity of social entrepreneurship and why future research is needed.

The Discussion of Social Entrepreneurship: Review of the Literature

The purpose of this article is to explore the various discussion of social entrepreneurship. Social entrepreneurship provides a unique opportunity and assumptions to question, challenge and rethink from different perspective of management and business research. This article offers a comparative analysis of commercial entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship using a prevailing analytical model from commercial entrepreneurship. The analysis highlights key differences and similarities between commercial entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship. This article also presents a framework on how to approach the social entrepreneurial process more effectively and systematically. Social entrepreneurship is a process of creating value by combining resources in new concepts. These process are intended primarily to get the opportunities to create social value by stimulating social change or achieve social needs. When viewed as a process, social entrepreneurship involves the offering of products and services but can also refer to the creation of new organizations. This article focuses and analyses the literature finding of social entrepreneurship.

Social Entrepreneurship: Definition, challenges, and future endeavors

Social entrepreneurship is a branch of entrepreneurship, which encompasses the operating of social enterprises and the subsequent creation of social value. Differences between commercial and social entrepreneurship are one of the most prominent topics that concern this branch of entrepreneurship. This paper will elaborate on the distinction between commercial and social entrepreneurship and will try to categorize types of social enterprises. Furthermore arguments about the difficulty of measuring the performance in a social enterprise will be presented. Main topic of discussion will be the capturing of the social value into the end worth of the enterprise.

Despite widespread acknowledgement that social entrepreneurship and social enterprise remain highly contextual –and, therefore, contestable– notions which can be interpreted in various ways depending on the ideology and the goals of the institutions championing them (Dart 2004; Dey & Steyaert 2010; Nicholls 2010c), there are common features upon which most scholars and commentators can agree. This chapter aims to capture the essence of what social entrepreneurship is and also of what it is not. The chapter is structured as follows. The following section examines the concept of social entrepreneurship and reviews a number of definitions in order to highlight common features. Then, social entrepreneurship is compared with, and differentiated from, related –but distinctive– concepts. After this, the fourth section looks at the origins and drivers of social entrepreneurship in an historical perspective. Finally, this chapter concludes by suggesting a number of challenges for practice, policy and research in this field.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP: A CONCEPT PROBLEMATIC.

Social entrepreneurship has recently seen greater attention from the public sector, as well as from researchers. However, the absence of a unifying paradigm in the area has led to a proliferation of definitions. In addition, several approaches to the phenomenon, and different schools of thought have emerged in different parts of the world. At first, because of the different conceptions of capitalism and the role of government, there seems to be a difference between the American and the European conceptions of social entrepreneurship. We will try in this communication to clarify the concepts of \"social entrepreneurship\", \"social entrepreneur\" and \"social organization\" and to consider whether there is a transatlantic divide in how they are designed and defined. After justifying the need of a definition, we will present different points according to geographical areas. We propose an explanation for key concepts surrounding social entrepreneurship and finally discuss the implications for future research.

A Study on Exploring the Concept of Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship in recent times has gained importance as a means to meet social and economic needs of the poor globally. However, in spite of it’s increasing popularity as a concept, there is no consensus among academics and practitioners when it comes to formulating one common definition on the topic which may be acceptable to all as it means different things to different people. The current article tries to analyse the literature available on the subject, exploring it’s theoretical and conceptual framework which helps to understand the phenomena of social entrepreneurship and its role, importance and applicability in the modern society.

Social Entrepreneurship: Analyzing Literature and Proposing a Comprehensive Model

Nowadays, entrepreneurship, specifically social entrepreneurship (SE), is drawing the attention of so many scholars, researchers and policy makers. Social entrepreneurs play a critical and significant role in any economy. They are known as social change agents, which are able to make fundamental contributions to economic and social development. However, there is not a common view about the topic, especially in the field of SE. This paper seeks to elaborate the concept of SE, as a unique and distinct concept. In order to do so, the paper reviews the existing literature on SE and proposes a model to put together the concepts and ideas and provide a comprehensive and common view for the beneficiaries of this phenomenon. This paper will rebuild the existing view of the SE as a two-sided fact, which includes 'Social' and 'Entrepreneurship' dimensions.
