The construction of power, traditions and ideals: the Middle Bronze Age palaces of the Levant. (original) (raw)

Abstract

The palatial architecture of the Middle Bronze Age Levant clearly reflects how it has been used as a tool by the ruling class and as a means of communication. The visual properties of some of the palaces were employed by the builders to express their political authority and dominance in their territory. On the other hand, some more refined architectural features reveal aspects of peer-polity interaction, namely the desire to create a shared identity paralleled with intra-elite competition.
