Bangladesh is one of the highly populated small countries in Asia which is ecologically vulnerable and facing acute challenges on air and water pollution, land deterioration, and waste management. This research is outlined to explore the extent and nature of practicing environmental accounting (EA) and reporting by listed non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) in Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for the period of 2012 to 2016. The annual reports of the sample NBFIs have been used to collect relevant data which are grouped into twelve categories. Therefore, the findings simply show that the application of this concept is in the very tertiary level where the NBFIs are trying to adopt and disclose gradually. The highly disclosed areas include energy savings initiatives, environmental awareness programs and investment in water treatment plants, whereas award for environmental initiative, tree plantation and global warming are in least positions. The yearly comparisons unveiled that the disclosure practices increased sharply from 19% in 2012 to 63% in 2016 wherein majority of the disclosures were qualitative. Moreover, the study found that environmental disclosure practices were closely linked with paid-up capital. Therefore, it is recommended that all the financial institutions, regardless of capital strength, be encouraged to practice environmental disclosures.

Bangladesh faces many ecological challenges, including air and water contamination, land degradation, and waste management. This study was designed to investigate the extent and nature of environmental accounting and reporting of listed banks in Bangladesh in 12 major categories. Information was collected from the annual reports of 20 banks listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange for the period 2010 to 2014. The results indicate that the banks examined significantly disclosed environmental information for the 12 categories. The study found that banks disclosed the most environmental information for green banking and renewable energy categories, whereas they disclosed the least for environmental recognition and waste management categories. Furthermore, yearly comparison reveals that disclosure of environmental information increased sharply from 16% in 2010 to 83% in 2014. In addition, Bangladesh Bank's recent fruitful initiatives on environmental disclosures were reviewed, and the findings of the 12 categories have managerial implications for policy makers in corporations as well as the government. It is recommended that professional accounting bodies of Bangladesh, along with international and government policy makers develop a separate conceptual framework for environmental accounting and reporting for the financial and non-financial sectors of the country.
ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING CONCEPT AND REPORTING PRACTICE: EVIDENCE FROM BANKING SECTOR OF BANGLADESH
Environmental Accounting would be the most powerful tool in the upcoming world to create accountability of the businessmen. As bank is the largest financial institution of financing in manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors, it has substantial impact on environment. The study is an attempt to understand the practical situation of the concept and practices of the environmental accounting and reporting by Bangladeshi banking companies. The study is designed to investigate the extent and nature of environmental accounting concept and reporting in banking companies " annual report. The research is purely based on the information from secondary data sources. The information collected for the purpose of the study involves the examination of annual reports for the year 2010 to 2014 of the selected banks. The reports pointed that most of the banks of the study are making efforts to provide environmental information on a voluntary basis, which are qualitative and quantitative in nature. The analysis has taken an attempt to justify the banks " top level management concern on environmental protection. The result of the study also shown that hundred percent (100%) sample banks disclosed environmental information and more than ninety percent (90%) banks disclosed both qualitative and quantitative information in the annual report. The research finding revealed that environmental accounting and reporting practices by the banking companies " are satisfactory and upward in trend in Bangladesh. The study suggested that the government should give pressure to the banking sector to publish mandatory environmental disclosure in their annual report.
Environmental Accounting Challenges of Selected Manufacturing Enterprises in Bangladesh

Considering the importance as well as potential problems of environment issues, it needs more analysis of relevant factors for future course of actions. Environmental Accounting is called green accounting. This paper made on Challenges of Environmental Accounting Practices in Bangladesh on most polluted 16 selected enterprises in Chittagong during the period 2018. The main objective of the study is to specify the environmental accounting challenges in selected manufacturing enterprises in Bangladesh. The study is based on primary data. Primary data were collected by questionnaire and expert opinion. Questionnaires were prepared based on study objectives. Collected data were processed manually and with help of the Computer software. The study highlights some critical challenges to implement environmental accounting in manufacturing enterprises in Bangladesh. The perception of respondents about the Challenges are: cost involvement, lack of skilled manpower, lack of set rules about environmental accounting, inadequate environmental accounting standard, low adoption of environmental accounting, no specific principles of environmental accounting etc. The average mean score of challenges is 2.47 in the scale of 3. The study also tries to forward some recommendations to overcome the challenges. It is to be recognized that the accountants have a key role in environmental accounting and reporting.
Environmental Accounting Disclosure Practices: A Survey of Some Listed Companies in Bangladesh

The aim of the authors is to know the disclosure behavior of listed companies in Bangladesh relating to environment and also provide some suggestions for encouraging about environmental issues to the companies. For preparing the report, the authors mainly focus on secondary data using annual reports. For analyzing the data, statistical mean, standard deviation, variance and frequency distribution have been calculated. It has found that, most of the companies in Bangladesh are poorly disclosed (average 20.62%) about the environmental issues in annual reports but in banking sectors the disclosure practice is about satisfactory level with comparing other sectors.
Environmental Reporting Practices in Annual Report of Selected Listed Companies in Bangladesh
This study is an empirical investigation of the extent of environmental disclosure by selected listed companies in Bangladesh. This study also endeavors to report the association between company specific attributes and environmental disclosure of the sample companies. The study revealed that on an average sample companies disclosed 8.53 (15.23%) of the expected information in their annual reports and environmental disclosure volume and total asset of the companies are significantly correlated. The study opined that companies of Bangladesh are disclosing very inadequate environmental information in their annual reports. This study is expected to play an important role in creating consciousness among the users and preparers in disclosing more environmental information in annual reports.

Today, the environment is changing rapidly and we are obviously heading towards a disaster. The responsibility for such changes comes on the shoulder of business community to a large extent. And it is customary that businesses are disturbing the smooth flow of environmental structure through their thoughtless operations. So, business community should have and practice its moral commitment towards the society by spending for tackling environment. Environmental accounting emerges as a tool to prove this commitment where costs from business communities’ point of view and effects from society’s point of view are balanced. In this paper, we have tried to define environmental accounting with its scope and we have also had a thorough review of the practices followed by our companies from the general-purpose financial statements to the extent of disclosure.

This paper is aimed to analysis the present status of CEA of private sector textile mills of Bangladesh.For the study a sample of 25% of population has been taken. Environment has become a crucial factor in today's ecological, social and economical set up.Managers who can influence decisions regarding eenvironment express the view that more environmental accounting work is needed, but very little such work is done. A semi-structured questionnaire was prepared and followed direct interview method to know the relevant information. Managers are positive about environmental issues. This paper revealed different problems for not adopting CEA in full swing.
