Thermodynamic Geometry and Phase Transitions of AdS Braneworld Black Holes
The thermodynamics and phase transitions of charged RN-AdS and rotating Kerr-AdS black holes in a generalized Randall-Sundrum braneworld are investigated in the framework of thermodynamic geometry. A detailed analysis of the thermodynamics, stability and phase structures in the canonical and the grand canonical ensembles for these AdS braneworld black holes are described. The thermodynamic curvatures for both these AdS braneworld black holes are computed and studied as a function of the thermodynamic variables. Through this analysis we illustrate an interesting dependence of the phase structures on the braneworld parameter for these black holes.
de Sitter thermodynamics and the braneworld
Journal of High Energy Physics, 2005
The de Sitter thermodynamics of cosmological models with a modified Friedmann equation is considered, with particular reference to high-energy Randall-Sundrum and Gauss-Bonnet braneworlds. The Friedmann equation can be regarded as the first law of thermodynamics of an effective gravitational theory in quasi de Sitter spacetime. The associated entropy provides some selection rules for the range of the parameters of the models, and is proposed for describing tunneling processes in the class of high-energy gravities under consideration.
The first law of thermodynamics for Kerr–anti-de Sitter black holes
Classical and Quantum Gravity, 2005
We obtain expressions for the mass and angular momenta of rotating black holes in anti-de Sitter backgrounds in four, five and higher dimensions. We verify explicitly that our expressions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics, thus allowing an unambiguous identification of the entropy of these black holes with 1 4 of the area. We find that the associated thermodynamic potential equals the background-subtracted Euclidean action multiplied by the temperature. Our expressions differ from many given in the literature. We find that in more than four dimensions, only our expressions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Moreover, in all dimensions we show that our expression for the mass coincides with that given by the conformal conserved charge introduced by Ashtekar, Magnon and Das. We indicate the relevance of these results to the AdS/CFT correspondence.

We study thermodynamic of a dyonic AdS black hole surrounded by quintessence dark energy where negative cosmological constant of AdS space behaves as pressure of the black hole. We choose grand canonical ensemble of the black hole where its magnetic charge QM and electric potential ΦE are hold as constant. Our goal in this work is study physical effects of the magnetic charge and electric potential on the thermodynamic phase transition of the black hole in presence of quintessence dark energy. When barotropic index of the quintessence is ω = − 9 we obtained that compressibility factor of the black hole reduces to Zc = 3 8 which corresponds to the Van der Waals fluid. We obtained analogy between the small/large black hole phase transition and liquid/gas phase transition of the Van der Waals fluid. Numerical calculations predict that the black hole may born plasma phase which is fourth different state of the matter which does not appear in the Van der Waals fluid.
On Thermodynamics of AdS Black Holes in Arbitrary Dimensions
Chinese Physics Letters, 2012
Considering the cosmological constant Λ as a thermodynamic pressure and its conjugate quantity as a thermodynamic volume as proposed in [1], we discuss the critical behavior of charged AdS black hole in arbitrary dimensions d. In particular, we present a comparative study in terms of the spacetime dimension d and the displacement of critical points controlling the transition between the small and the large black holes. Such behaviors vary nicely in terms of d. Among our result in this context consists in showing that the equation of state for a charged RN-AdS black hole predicts an universal number given by 2d−5 4d−8 . The three dimensional solution is also discussed.
Motivated by gauge/gravity group in the low energy effective theory of the heterotic string theory, the minimal coupling of Gauss-Bonnet-massive gravity with Born-Infeld electrodynamics is considered. At first the metric function is calculated and then the geometrical properties of the solutions are investigated. It is found that there is an essential singularity at the origin and the intrinsic curvature is regular elsewhere. In addition, the effects of massive parameters on the horizons of black holes are studied and the conserved and thermodynamic quantities are calculated. Also, it is shown that the solutions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Furthermore using heat capacity of these black holes, thermal stability and phase transitions are investigated. The variation of different parameters and related modifications on the (number of) phase transition are examined. Next, the critical behavior of the Gauss-Bonnet-Born-Infeld-massive black holes in context of extended phase space is studied. It is shown that how the variation of the different parameters affects the existence and absence of phase transition. Also, it is found that for specific values of different parameters, these black holes may enjoy the existence of new type of phase transition which to our knowledge was not observed in black hole physics before.
Temperature, energy, and heat capacity of asymptotically anti–de Sitter black holes
Physical Review D, 1994
We investigate the thermodynamical properties of black holes in (3+1) and (2+1) dimensional Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant. In each case, the thermodynamic internal energy is computed for a finite spatial region that contains the black hole. The temperature at the boundary of this region is defined by differentiating the energy with respect to entropy, and is equal to the product of the surface gravity (divided by 2π) and the Tolman redshift factor for temperature in a stationary gravitational field. We also compute the thermodynamic surface pressure and, in the case of the (2+1) black hole, show that the chemical potential conjugate to angular momentum is equal to the proper angular velocity of the black hole with respect to observers who are at rest in the stationary time slices. In (3+1) dimensions, a calculation of the heat capacity reveals the existence of a thermodynamically stable black hole solution and a negative heat capacity instanton. This result holds in the limit that the spatial boundary tends to infinity only if the comological constant is negative; if the cosmological constant vanishes, the stable black hole solution is lost. In (2+1) dimensions, a calculation of the heat capacity reveals the existence of a thermodynamically stable black hole solution, but no negative heat capacity instanton. i. introduction A variety of theoretical arguments indicate that black holes have thermodynamical properties. This thermal character is expected to hold for all black holes, yet
Black Hole Thermodynamics, Induced Gravity and Gravity in Brane Worlds
One of explanations of the black hole entropy implies that gravity is entirely induced by quantum effects. By using arguments based on the AdS/CFT correspondence we give induced gravity interpretation of the gravity in a brane world in higher dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. The underlying quantum theory is SU(N) theory where NNN is related to the CFT central charge. The theory includes massless fields which correspond to degrees of freedom of the boundary CFT. In addition, on the brane there are massive degrees of freedom with masses proportional to l−1l^{-1}l−1 where lll is the radius of AdS. At the conformal boundary of AdS they are infinitely heavy and completely decouple. It is the massive fields which can explain the black hole entropy. We support our interpretation by a microscopic model of a 2D brane world in AdS_3AdS_3AdS_3.

By contracting Ricci tensor of metric field with electromagnetic tensor field we make a scalar term added with the Einstein-Maxwell (EM) gravity Lagrangian density and then obtain modified Reissner Nordstrom (RN) black hole metric via perturbation method. In fact our motivation in use of this alternative gravity theory instead of the EM gravity is based on influence of cosmic magnetic field throughout the space time as inevitable effect at duration of cosmic inflation. Our goal in this work is investigation of contribution of this interaction term on the Hawking temperature and possibility of phase transitions too.
Thermodynamics of Kerr-Sen-AdS black holes in the restricted phase space
arXiv (Cornell University), 2023
We analyse the restricted phase space thermodynamics (RPST) of Kerr-Sen-AdS black holes with the central charge C and its conjugate chemical potential µ but exclude the familiar P dV term in the first law of black hole thermodynamics. That gives rise to a new perspective on the thermodynamics of black holes. Using the scaling properties, we investigate the first law and the corresponding Euler formula. Such formalism has its beauty, to say, for example, the mass is considered to be a homogeneous function of the extensive variables in the first order. In contrast, the intensive variables are of zeroth order. Because of the complicated expressions of the metric, we numerically calculate the critical values of the thermodynamic quantities. We find the phase transition behaviour of the free energy and other thermodynamic conjugate variables that appear in the first law. The RPST of the Kerr-Sen-AdS black holes is like that of the Reissner-Nordström-AdS and the Kerr-AdS black holes. Such notions of the phase transition behaviour show that there should be some underlying universality in the RPST formalism.
