Abstract
The World Wide Web (WWW) is attracting the attention of institutions and academics around the world as a vehicle for interactive learning. Despite all the attention (and in a few universities and colleges, substantial investments of financial, human, and temporal resources), results are unclear. In fact, little agreement exists concerning the effective dimensions of interactive learning that can or should be implemented via the WWW.

Are the Most Interactive Learners on Web‐based Learning Systems the Best Output Performers
In various learning platforms that comprise face‐to‐face, web‐based, and hybrid learning systems, interactivity, as a concept addressing how learners engage with the learning environment, is a much discussed theme. The assumption in such discussions is that the more interactive learners are the more learning will take place; increasing interactivity then would be a desirable goal in designing learning systems. Surprisingly, however, there are no studies thus far that have empirically established a link between interactivity and output performance in a learning situation. This paper reports on a study linking interactivity with output performance in a course that involves both face‐to‐face and web‐based learning. An experiment based on linear correlation statistical analysis tests the hypothesis whether the most interactive learners are the best output performers. It is shown that there is positive correlation between high interactive learning, as defined in terms of online usage statistics, and high output performance, as defined in terms of final course marks.
Creating Optimized Learning Environments: A Course Using Interactive Web Elements

The use of the World Wide Web for promoting learning provides great potential for both students and faculty. Using both synchronous and asynchronous interactions permits the professors and the students to maximize their time together and utilize their individual learning and presentation skills in a collaborative effort that yields substantial dividends in the form of learning and productivity. This paper focuses on one course, "Reading in Content Areas," that is facilitated through the use of the interactive opportunities provided by the World Wide Web. The specific course components and their use are described, including the syllabus, discussion group, journals, course Web sites, class notes, and Web quests. Course evaluation results are discussed in terms of: development of a community of emergent professionals, instructor development, student-instructor relationships, conversations over time, and frustration.

The purpose of this chapter is to review and critically evaluate some issues related to Web-based learning. The chapter begins with an introduction to the importance of using the Web in education; then it examines and evaluates such issues. Suggestions and solutions to these issues are offered. These issues are classified into theoretical and design issues. The theoretical issues include: (1) online interaction, (2) learner control, (3) disorientation and cognitive overload. The design issues include: (1) interface design and (2) content structure. The conclusion section summarizes the chapter and points out the importance of considering individual differences in Web-based learning systems design.

Traditional face to face teaching is rapidly changing to online through web technologies. Even though the web technologies are developing in a fast phase in India till now Wi-Fi campus is a distance dream of many universities in India. The web technologies awareness level among the educators and students is good. But the implementation of web technologies in the educational environment is not up to the mark. The implementation is in a slower phase than the expected level. The main aim of this research is to analyses the awareness level among the educators, girls and boys students’ differences about the web technologies. This research is also aims to study the implementation level in the educational environment. Many Indian universities are moving from the face to face learning to web connected learning so study about the web technologies is the very important aspect to enhance effective learning.
Web-based Instruction as a Tool for Effective Learning
As Web-based instruction usage increases in the educational and training institutions, many people have recognized the importance of evaluating its effects on student outcomes such as learning, performance, and satisfaction. These results are often compared to those of conventional classroom instruction in order to determine which method is "better." However, major differences in technology and presentation rather than instructional content can obscure the true relationship between Web-based instruction and these outcomes.

As society changes rapidly education has become a life long activity, demanding for more open access to instruction. Technological developments, such as hypermedia and global access to the Internet, and especially the World Wide Web, can be used as useful tools in the implementation of alternate, open modes of instruction. In this work, distance learning through the Web is investigated. The ways in which Web functionality may serve the educational purposes of a virtual classroom are examined. The main stakeholders of a Web-based course are identified and their roles in a virtual classroom setting are described. As the impact of the educational material in the effectiveness of the learning environment is of major importance, alternative models of learning and assessing are considered. As a case study, a Web-based course on computer architecture, developed at the Department of Informatics, University of Athens, is presented. The difficulties that the learners encounter in this open environment are identified and possible solutions are proposed.
A 360 Degree View of Web Based Learning

This paper aims to explore the views of stakeholders about the web based learning. Data were collected from 201 students, 124 faculty members, 191 parents and 71 employers. Four separate summative content analyses were used for analyzing the data. Results indicated that students were happy for securing good marks during online exams and were not concerned about the learning opportunities. Whereas, majority of parents were concerned about the learning of their children. However, both parents and students consider online education to be the waste of money but consider it to be a good mechanism for continuing academic activities during the pandemic. Results also indicated that majority of faculty members were concerned about the learning of students. Plagiarism during online exam was the greatest concern of the faculty members. Lastly, it is also found that the potential employers consider online teaching methods to be inefficient and the quality of future labor supply was their biggest concern. Hence, the concept of zone of proximal development cannot be ignored while imparting education.

Blended learning is spreading in a lot of institutions nowadays. There is a need to use technology together with face to face teaching in order to motivate students to learn. Some students use technology to socialize with friends, show off or just chat to fill up their spare time. They are overwhelmed with any new technological product that becomes available in their country and compete to be the first to buy the latest mobile phone, eyepod or mp3. There is a need to make use of their interest in technology but to try to gear it towards learning and doing research that will lead to the enhancement and development of their future careers.
Web-based learning: effects on learning process and outcome

Educators have witnessed lately a proliferation of Web-based learning applications. These Web-learning environments have made learning much more convenient by stretching the spatial and temporal barriers. Their effectiveness, however, remains to be examined. In this research, the authors study the relative effectiveness of two different types of Web-learning environments: distributed passive learning (DPL) versus distributed interactive learning (DIL) environments. In the DPL environment, the Web is only used to deliver linear learning material, such as Word files and PowerPoint slides. In the DIL environment, however, the learning material is in hypertext format, providing the learner with more exploration and interactivity capabilities. The results of an empirical study show that the DIL environment is superior to the DPL environment in terms of both the learning process and the learning outcome.

Increasingly college students are expected to use computers and technology in their studies. This study estimated the relationship between students ’ use of technology and self-reported educational gains. These gains range from general learning outcomes to specific outcomes related to computers and technology. Results suggest a modest, but statistically significant relationship between students ’ use of technology and closely related learning outcomes. Four college activities related to computer use emerged as strongest predictors of gains from college: searched internet for course material, used computer to analyze data, used index or database to find material, and retrieved off-campus library materials. Implications for policy and future research are discussed.

For traditional universities, the obvious question is not when but how to use the Internet effectively for educational purposes? How can they meet changing educational demands and manage change? What can we learn from early adopters? How can we institutionalize WBE? This panel will address many of these questions and will discuss several on going experiments and authors' experiences with WBE.
