Background: Nursing Informatics integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to facilitate the integration of data, information, knowledge and wisdom to support patients, nurses and other healthcare providers in their decision-making during health care delivery. Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge and use of nursing informatics amongst nurses in Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, Lagos. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive research design was adopted for this study. Multi stage sampling technique was adopted to achieve the sample size of 162. Self-administered questionnaire was used to elicit information from the respondents and analysis was done using (SPSS) version 22. Result: The mean age of the respondent is 35±0.48.The overall knowledge of nursing Informatics among respondents was high121.5(75%) had good knowledge of nursing informatics and the overall use of nursing informatics was good 157(99.4%). There was no statistically significant relationship between knowledge and the use of nursing informatics among the respondents p >0.05. Conclusion: The study concluded that the respondents had a good knowledge of nursing informatics and good use of nursing informatics. Therefore, the management should continue to provide avenues for more training in order to be able to sustain the knowledge and use of informatics among the respondents.
Assessing the Nursing Informatics Competency among Registered Nurses of Selected Hospitals in India

Informatics competency has become an essential requirement for nurses to fulfill their professional roles. This pilot study examined the factors affecting informatics competency to help develop strategies to improve nurses' informatics practice. The study was conducted in India to assess the factors affecting nursing informatics competencies among registered nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 35 samples. A questionnaire was designed to collect data on nurses' informatics competency, basic computer skills, attitudes toward computerization, and general characteristics. The data was entered into SPSS16 software and correlation analysis, and regression were carried out.The mean score percentage of total nursing informatics competency was 94.30%. The highest mean score was related to informatics skills (40.30%), followed by computer literacy skills (32.80 %). In addition, informatics competency is mainly affected by education, age, position of job, and frequency of using devices. Nurses had favorable attitudes toward computerization. Significant factors associated with informatics competency were basic computer skills and formal informatics education. The study findings suggest that the enhancement of basic computer skills and incorporation of informatics into formal nursing curricula are needed to improve the nurses' competency in managing and using healthcare information.

Technology plays an important role in educational and nursing work in today's complex health systems. Therefore it seems important to research the role of nurses and highlight the need for adequate training programs in information technology to be aligned with the ever-increasing speed of technology. The analysis was used, followed by an exhaustive search of the literature in databases and a library search based on keywords. The criteria used for selecting studies primarily focused on nursing informatics and the importance of expertise in the effective use of information technology in all aspects of the nursing profession. In a critical assessment of emerging technologies, the key elements of nursing informatics implementation were considered as healthcare promotion, advanced systems, internet, and network. Because of the nature and the development of the information age, it is required to receive the necessary IT training for all categories of nurses. To better take advantage of information technology in nursing results and health care quality and to motivate nurses due to the rapid advancement of technology, educational plans are advised to set short-term and long-term specialized courses focused on four target groups: learning, working, graduating, senior undergraduate, and doctoral graduate. It is expected that the outcome of this study would support educational providers with program growth.

The current and future health care technologies show vigorous development in all phases in medical care. This cross sectional descriptive study was employed using convenient sampling of 441 nurses’ who work in selected institutes, schools and college of nursing in northwest India. The subjects who had at least 1 year teaching experience, also ready to participate in the study and present at the time of data collection were accepted as samples. In comparison, nursing faculty who held doctorate degree in nursing and who were exposed to their session already, i.e. pilot study were excluded from the study.
