There is great demand for electricity and it is increasing day by day, but now a day what happened actually the method for accessing the data from the energy meter and billing is not up to the mark as well as it is time consuming. It is also required a huge manpower to complete this process. Because of that to reduce this huge manpower as well as complications, we exists this system. Our system provides the electricity readings on an LCD screen as well as can SMS this reading and cost in rupees to the user. A GSM modem is also integrated along with the meter to send alerts to the particular consumer regarding their energy consumption. Design and implementation of prepaid power billing system in smart grid environment

This paper presents the real-time monitoring of energy consumption utilizing the global system for mobile communication (GSM) via wireless protocols. The power supply company has the authority to change or alter the tariff rates. The method of payment is prepaid, so there will be options for the customer to request the number of units assigned to the particular meter against the money. The customer can monitor the number of units consumed with the help of GSM. If the units are ten percent of the total units, then the system will give a warning message so that the customer can recharge it before cutting off the supply. A GSM-based wireless module has remote access to the usage of electricity. Simulation is done on Proteus while the hardware is implemented using the microcontroller Arduino Uno.

Prepaid and Postpaid Energy Meter for Billing System Using Microcontroller and GSM

In this paper smart energy meter with GSM model for prepaid and postpaid system is proposed. Due to this system the user has ability to select prepaid or postpaid mode as per his/her requirement. In prepaid mode balance is reduced as per energy is consumed. When the balance is low user gets a "Balance is low" message. If balance reaches to zero then with the help of relay power automatically gets cut off. If the account is recharged then the user gets uninterrupted power supply. In postpaid system with the help of GSM module MSEB gets the message of how much units a particular user is used and according to that data MSEB sends bill by post.
