Facies analyses of cretaceous Upper Qamchuqa Formation Bai Hassan Oil Field Northern Iraq (original) (raw)

Bai Hassan oil field considered one of important north Iraq oil fields. It has been discovered in early stages of oil explorations in Iraq in (1929 ) cretaceous sequences considered As a very important reservoirs it known by( middle reservoir) for this age and it represented by upper Qamchuqa (Mauddud) formation. The Platform carbonate sequence of the Upper Qamchuqa Formation (Albian) of Kirkuk embayment, northern Iraq, is extensively affected by pervasive dolomitization. These dolomite rocks become the most productive Cretaceous reservoirs of several oil fields in the area. The Formation layered into Units M1, M2, M3, and M4, of which Unit M1 and M3 are the main reservoir zones characterized by correlatable flow units and barriers/baffles. Units M2 and M4 generally have lower overall reservoir quality compared to Units M1 and M3. 2
