Mediatizaton research is concerned with the change of everyday life, culture and society in the context of media change. Thus, in a first step, we must develop a adequate concept of media and related concepts. Media thus are understood to consist of a structural and a situational form: structurally it consists of technologies an social institutions and norms, situationally, it consists of produced content and aesthetics, and it exists as a space of experience for the people. The paper then shows how these defintions can be used to reconstruct theoretically and empircally, how media change may become a relevant context of the forms of human communication, of everyday life and all other social phenomena.

Masters in Media Studies (MMS) MEDS 501 Communication and Media Theories (3 cr hrs) This course is aimed at developing strong theoretical understanding of communication and media among the students. It also aims at enabling the students to approach and analyze various social and cultural phenomena from the perspective of communication. It deals with various aspects of communication theory with special reference to the trajectories of communication theorization, classic and recent media theories and the multicultural, multidisciplinary and multi-paradigmatic turn of the communication discipline. Glocal discernment of communication through this course is aimed at preparing the students for coping with contemporary discursive practices in the academia with special reference to communication theory. Contents include various traditions of and approaches to communication theory, inter/multi-disciplinarity of communication/media studies with special reference to philosophy and various social science disciplines, selected theories of communication and media, De-Westernization of and generative ideas for communication theorization and analysis of recent academic endeavors with regard to theorizing media.

Abstract Media communication is a young discipline, if we compare it with others. It has been studied scientifically from the last century in social sciences. This topic, as it is a human process, is complex, and it is changing because of new technologies. It transforms our society too. It is recognised that we are in a communication society. The management of knowledge is settled in business area too. Communication skills are recognised as competences in education for preparing future citizens. Media communication feeds from different disciplines and it keeps their attention. This book is an attempt to provide theoretical and empirical framework to better understand media communication from different point of views and channels in various contexts. The international authors are specialised on the issues. They cover a wide range of updated issues. They span from deepening about behaviour of media or trends to national cases related to social net and to new phenomena - as it is mindfulness applied to creativity. So in this book, two sections are presented. The first section focuses on the behaviour of media, when it is applied in education field and reception research. The second section provides three case studies about the Internet: platforms and social nets developed and applied to different publics. MEDIA AS THE INTERSPHERE OF HUMAN LIFE: ANOTHER VIEW ON THE MEDIATIZATION OF COMMUNICATION THEORY
ABSTRACT: In the present article, the author attempts to illustrate phenomena occurring in the sphere of human communication and integrate them into the speci!ic model. It would not be an overall description of the complex ecosystem of interpersonal communication, but rather the next brick added to the continuously expanding edi!ice of scienti!ic re!lection on communicating and the media. Thus, for the purposes of this study the author suggests the use of a term ‘intersphere’, derived from geometry. The author is convinced that the situation, in which the media are prevalent in every area of human life, is properly described. As for the linguistic analysis of the word ‘intersphere’, the author examines its possible references to the mediasphere theory, formulated by the Polish media researcher, Bp. Adam Lepa, and divided into logosphere, iconosphere, galenosphere and sonosphere. In the further study, he endeavors to investigate the extent, to which the perception of the media as the intersphere of human existence cooperates with – recently extremely popular and gaining more supporters – the theory of mediatization of various areas of life. It seems that (despite lexical similarities between the concepts of ‘mediosphere’ and ‘intersphere’) the comprehension of the media in terms of the intersphere of human life is much closer to the theory of mediatization; it constitutes as if the other side of this theory and hence, can perfectly complement it. A Dialectical Social Framework for the Analysis of Media Communication

This article proposes a dialectical theoretical framework for the analysis of media and media communication. The study begins with the determination that a genuine theoretical analysis of media and communication must take into account certain constitutive relations and processes within the social whole, since communication is not part of a single social structure or a distinctive structure within a social system. The article tries to formulate and analyze these relationships and processes in the form of dialectical tensions and patterns created by simultaneous, twin and overlapping dialectic relationships and processes of individualization-socialization and classification-massization. In doing so, the article reinterprets the forms of old and new media and of communication and highlights blogs as they reveal a true communicative media potential; the article also discusses concepts such as "free labor", which is also used by those who approach communication and media issues from political economy, and proposes new concepts such as virtual class and virtual petty bourgeoisie.
Media Ecology – (Un)necessary Research Perspective in Communication and Media Studies

The aim of this review and theoretical study is to determine the importance of media ecology theory for communication and media studies. Bearing in mind this research goal, the following research questions were asked: What is the media ecology theory? What approach to media and communication research does it represent? What research perspectives are proposed in the field of media ecology? What new can media ecology bring to communication and media studies? An additional objective of the article, and, at the same, time the intention of the authors, is to raise the interest of Polish researchers in the subject of media ecology and its various aspects, enriching research in the field of communication and media studies.
Communicative Constructivism and Mediatization

The article (a) proposes communicative constructivism as a theoretical framework for conceptualizing mediatization. Communicative constructivism elaborates social constructivism and links it to Habermas' theory of communicative action. By highlighting the neglected role of objectivations, it allows the recognition of knowledge, body, performance, and objects as part of communicative action. Communicative action results in communicative forms which constitute the institutions of the communicative culture of society. Linking actions and objects, mediatization is (b) part of any communicative action. As communication cultures vary with respect to the forms of communication, contemporary society can be defined by certain features of mediatization. Since these features are to be determined empirically, the article will (c) hint at their consequences for the diagnosis of contemporary society.
