A new research discovered certain brain functions that are improved in teenagers who are proficient in more than one language. The finding gives new understanding into how our feelings help shape our minds. About 1 in 5 kids nationwide speak more than one language. Children who become adults learning to talk two 'languages' usually learn English terms and sentence structure more gradually than those who talk only English. But research has discovered that multilingual kids are generally better than monolingual kids at multi-tasking. They are also better at concentrating their attention-for example, homing in on a speech in a loud school cafeteria .Dr. Nina Kraus and her co-workers at Northwestern University have been using head electrodes to evaluate an action in the mind tour that process complicated appears to be (called the hearing brainstem response). They mentioned that artists display attention and storage advantages similar to those seen in bilinguals. In past work, the researchers discovered that artists have improved hearing brainstem reactions to the moment and harmonics in an audio.

The main aim of the present study is to investigate the advantages and disadvantages of bilingualism inspired by the pioneering work of Uriel Weinreich and Einar Haugen and provide a synthesis of the main ideas, classifications and views on bilingualism. Language as a means of expression and communication is more complex in its spoken than in its written form. Spoken language is never existent without paralinguistic features, which influence the message differently in different cultures. The study of bilingualism is essentially the study of the consequences of second language learning. Weinreich states that the ideal bilingual switches from one language to the other according to the appropriate changes in the speech situation. An Investigation through Different Types of Bilinguals and Bilingualism
Bilingualism can be defined as the use of at least two languages either by a group of speakers or by an individual. The first step of a linguistic research, particularly sociolinguistic and language contact studies is to know and recognize different types of bilinguals and bilingualism along with their main features and to be able to distinguish them with highlighting their main characteristics in order to obtain and apply an appropriate and precise methodology for the research. Therefore, in the present study attempts were made to accurately classify bilinguals by the degree of fluency and competence in the languages spoken, by age, context or manner of acquisition of the languages, (the early/late and simultaneous/successive, formal/informal, acquired/learnt distinctions respectively), as well as by hypothesized processing mechanisms or hypothesized language representation (the additive/subtractive and compound/co-ordinate/subordinate distinctions), and it depicts the main characteristics of the various types of bilingualism and highlights the multi-dimensionality of bilingualism.. From the first half of the 20 th century, the question of whether bilingualism affects the individual has been discussed as a topic of essential investigation. Researchers have fallen into two main directions in answering this question. Some researchers claim that bilingualism is a negative phenomenon that has detrimental effects on bilingual. Recently, a number of researchers have produced evidence on the positive side that claim that bilingualism affects cognitive, personality, and educational developments. The study discusses these two views further regarding the three main dimensions. Then the study explains why the two views are so contradictory. The paper concludes that there is no a clear-cut answer for the question of the paper namely, Is bilingualism a problem? However, although a lot of studies are contradictory and each one needs firm methodological grounds recent studies with implementation of advanced research technologies and methods tip the balance in favor of bilingualism.

The article highlights the social sides of the language. The various social activities are said to be realized by means of the language. The article underlines the possibilities of people’s speaking various languages not mixing them. The bilingualism is explained to be understood in many various meanings such as the control of a person on two languages, the ability of using two languages in the same way, the ability of saying meaningful phrases in both languages, the proficiency of code switching, etc.

The overall aim of this study is, as suggested by Bialystok (2009), to investigate whether bilingual learners have an advantage in executive functions and a disadvantage in language compared to monolingual learners. Learning two languages in the same time is seen to create damaging effect into confusion for children in their age. In spite of the criticism, there are advantages which is offered from bilingual education.
