A Web-Based Adaptive and Intelligent Tutor by Expert Systems
Advances in Computing and Information …, 2013
Todays, Intelligent and web-based E-learning is one of regarded topics. So researchers are trying to optimize and expand its application in the field of education. The aim of this paper is developing of E-learning software which is customizable, dynamic, intelligent and adaptive with Pedagogy view for learners in intelligent schools. This system is an integration of adaptive web-based Elearning with expert systems as well. Learning process in this system is as follows. First intelligent tutor determines learning style and characteristics of learner by a questionnaire and then makes his model. After that the expert system simulator plans a pre-test and then calculates his score. If the learner gets the required score, the concept will be trained. Finally the learner will be evaluated by a post-test. The proposed system can improves the education efficiency highly as well as decreases the costs and problems of an expert tutor. As a result, every time and everywhere (ETEW) learning would be provided via web in this system. Moreover the learners can enjoy a cheap remote learning even at home in a virtual simulated physical class. So they can learn thousands courses very simple and fast.
Analysis and design of a Web-based authoring tool generating intelligent tutoring systems
Computers & Education, 2003
Authoring tools for intelligent tutoring systems (ITSs) are meant to provide environments where instructors may author their own ITSs in varying domains. In this way, painful constructions of ITSs, which are not reusable, may be avoided. However, the construction of an authoring tool is associated with many problems, such as the generality of the techniques incorporated, domain-independence, effectiveness for the prospective authors (instructors), and effectiveness for the students who will use the resulting ITSs. In this paper we will report on an empirical study that we conducted in order to design and develop WEAR, an ITS authoring tool for Algebra-related domains. In the study we investigated several aspects concerning the attitude and behaviour of both students and instructors. The study revealed important issues and was then used for the specification of the design of WEAR. A brief description of the developed system is also included in the paper so that the way that the design specifications were put into practice may be shown. However, a lot of the authoring tool's requirements that came to light could be applicable to other authoring tools as well. The most important requirement of this kind was the need for an instructor modelling component so that adaptivity could be provided to human instructors (authors). The provision of such facility is a novelty in the area of ITS authoring tools. # (M. Moundridou), mvirvou@unipi.gr (M. Virvou). the individual student. As such, ITSs have the ability to present the teaching material in a flexible way and to provide learners with tailored instruction and feedback. This is achieved through the main components constituting an ITS: the domain expert, the student model, the teaching expert and the user interface. shown that such systems can be educationally effective in comparison with traditional instructional methods either by reducing the amount of time it takes students to reach a particular level of achievement or by improving the achievement levels, given the same time on a task.
The Use of Intelligent Tutoring System for Developing Web-based Learning Communities
The purpose of this paper is to describe a web-based intelligent tutoring system (ITS) framework. A formal model of ITS compose of an user environment and pedagogical environment is presented, which represents domain knowledge based on ontologies to improve the sharing and reusing of teaching materials. The system constructs the user environment based on users' knowledge levels, psychology characteristics, learning style, etc. Finally this paper attempts to emphasis the importance of intelligent tutoring system by confirming the effectiveness of tutorial programs based on artificial intelligence for developing web-based learning communities.
Filling the Gap between Intelligent Tutoring Systems and E-Learning Systems
2013
The application and development of e learning and distance education via the Internet and Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) has been growing inexorably, in recent years. Both systems have strengths and weaknesses. Intelligent Tutoring Systems are typically domain septic and rely on concise knowledge modelling and learner modelling. The goal of the research in the area of Intelligent Tutoring Systems is to build computer-based tutors that achieve the effects of learning individually with a human tutor, while E-learning systems suffer from defects mainly related to the relative absence of the teacher and, therefore, the difficulty of adapting teaching to the level and behaviour of the learner. This paper provides possibilities for convergence of these two areas, and describes two of our experiences in providing an Intelligent Tutoring Systems style approach to eLearning systems. An Overview of Intelligent Tutoring System
2003
This paper consists of an in-depth summary and analysis of the research and development state of the art for intelligent tutoring system (ITS) authoring systems. A seven-part categorization of two dozen authoring systems is given, followed by a characterization of the authoring tools and the types of ITSs that are built for each category. An overview of the knowledge acquisition and authoring techniques used in these systems is given. A characterization of the design tradeoffs involved in building an ITS authoring system is given. Next the pragmatic questions of real use, productivity findings, and evaluation are discussed. Finally, I summarize the major unknowns and bottlenecks to having widespread use of ITS authoring tools.
A WEB-BASED INTELLIGENT APPROACH TO TUTORING
2001
Many web-based tutoring environments involve tutoring using fixed sets of problems. Such environments are unable to accurately measure a student's understanding about the subject matter. Unless a good pedagogical framework is used in the development of web-based teaching and learning systems, they may not be very useful. In this paper, we introduce a web-based intelligent tutoring system. Our tutoring system has been built on a robust framework of intelligent systems based on a three-tier Java client-server architecture and deployed in a world-wide-web environment.
A review of intelligent tutoring systems in e-learning
—An ITS (Intelligent Tutoring System) is a complex, integrated software system that applies the principles and methods of artificial intelligence (AI) to the problems and needs of teaching and learning. They allow searching the student level of knowledge and learning strategies used to increase or correct the students' knowledge. They are intended to support and improve the teaching and learning process in a selected area of knowledge while respecting the individuality of the learner. In the paper a review of intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) is given from the aspect of their application and usability in modern learning concepts. The paper explains a lot of tried-and-tested teaching mechanisms and aims at providing suggestions to engineer a platform that makes learning easier and more productive.
Comparative Analysis of Intelligent Tutoring System Approaches
Journal 4 Research - J4R Journal, 2018
With the huge advancement in technology there is a need of advancement in education. Lots of work have been done in education system to enhance the learning ability of students, Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) is one of the outcome of those advancements. It provides a platform which reduce the dependency on human tutor as it focuses on providing smart (intelligent) system to students for learning. ITS is a system which is implemented on computers that uses Artificial Intelligence(AI) techniques for advanced learning experience where human tutor is replaced by a virtual tutor. It presents education and other study related information in a flexible and personalized way. An ITS mainly consists of three models Domain Model, Student Model, Tutor Model.
