The influence of lighting on shelf-life of extra virgin olive oil packaged in coloured PET bottles (original) (raw)

This study evaluates the influence of different colored PET bottles on the shelf-life of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) when stored under varying light conditions. It was found that blue and white PET bottles effectively shielded EVOO from light, thereby maintaining its quality better compared to other colors over a six-month period. Importantly, increased light intensity leads to greater degradation of EVOO quality, highlighting the potential advantages of colored PET packaging for shelf-life extension.
