Federico DIppolito e giuristi Dir St
In this paper the author analyzes the researches performed by Federico d’Ippolito on roman jurists, following a chronological path: from the first paper ( Gaio Cassio Longino’s monography), trough the works on the II century’s B.C. jurists up to the archaic jurisprudence. The methodological criteria used by d’Ippolito are pointed out. They are the reconstruction of each personality on the basis of a refined use of all the instruments used by the ancient historians such as the philological inquiry of the sources and the insertion of any jurist in its cultural, social and political environment. In addition the historiographical papers are examined: they represent a great part of the scientific production of d’Ippolito and involve mainly the changes that the European romanist science operated toward the study of the jurists: from Sanio to Lenel, from Schulz to Wieaker, from “pandettistik” to the Neapolitan school and debates on the new trends. In the final part of this paper the d’Ippolito project on the full collection of Testimonia and Fragmenta of archaic jurisprudence is described. Such research project is now inside the SIR (Scriptores iuris romani) project, coordinated from the Italian Institute of Human Science in Florence and will be performed by coworkers of the departed scholar.
