ABSTRACT Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is a decision making process to analyze environmental impacts.This paper is related to EIA of proposed six kilometer road from Kalishuri to Surjomoni Union at Bauphal, Patuakhali that conducting by Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED). The proposed area is so far behind to good communication facilities within the different parts of this region due to absence of road connecting to other area. The significance of the proposed road involves directly to the people of that region in developing their social, economic and environmental condition.The aims of the study are to find out the potential environmental impacts, mitigation measures and to compute the environmental impact value (EIV) of the project.The key findings of this study include environmental positive and negative impacts mainly decreasing plant biodiversity, hydrology and agricultural lands. The study reveals that the EIV is -1 (negative one) in regarding to three environmental factors named ecological, physico-chemical and human interests. The mitigating options of various impacts on the project are environmental friendly technology, conservation of road side plantation, agricultural lands etc.The EIA helps to complete an environment friendly project by providing sound management on environmental impacts and means of preventing or reducing those impacts. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) may provide a mechanism for executing sustainable development and it is also becoming a very significance revision before authorizing of any project plan. EIA helps to decision making process whether the project is beneficial or harmful effects for the environment. Both on site and off site environmental impacts can be reduced through undertaking EIA for any bridge construction activities. This paper mainly concentrates on to find out potential environmental impact during the construction, operation and maintenance phase of the project using different matrix method. It also finds out the effective mitigation measures of the adverse impacts that will be helpful for the surrounding environment. Primary data were collected from field survey, focus group discussion. Environmental Impact Assessment of Dutta Residential Area Project at Kornokathi, Barisal, Bangladesh
Housing is one of the five basic needs incorporated in the constitution of Bangladesh. But in Bangladesh housing problem is more acute due to population growth especially in urban area. Government alone cannot provide house to all and realizing this, they decided to share the task of providing safe decent places to live with NGO and commercial sector. Barisal is a divisional city of Bangladesh. Public and private initiatives are being taken for residential development in Barisal city. One of these initiatives is proposed Dutta Residential project a private commercial effort to meet housing need of the city people. Development work often has substantial impacts on the environment. Like other development project this residential project has different types of impact during construction as well as from the operation of facility. This Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is to provide information on the potential negative and positive environmental and social impacts of the project. It also aims to make recommendations for the mitigation of the potential negative impacts and enhancement of the positive ones. A field survey of the project site was conducted and potential environmental impacts of project activities were identified, assessed, and documented. The EIA Team carried out consultations with various stakeholders, particularly lead agencies, local authorities and the affected people. An environmental impact assessment provides general information about the potential environmental impacts associated with a proposed development for example proposed Kornokathi residential project at Kornokathi, Barisal. The main objective of our EIA to represent brief discussion on the EIA process and it roles in the planning and implementation of the project We start our project work by Collection of information relating to the project by requesting and meeting with the authority of the project .We went our project site for field survey and asking question different stakeholder and collect baseline information from this site. The site is plain area that is constituted of grasslands, shrub vegetation. Currently the land is utilized as a grazing land and crop production for one season for cattle, sheep and goats by the previous land owner.
Environmental Impact Assessment of Boga Bridge Patukhali
The economic development and social unity largely depend on the communication facilities. Improvement of national highway network in Bangladesh has been obstructed due to some rivers. Lohalia is one of the largest rivers in Patuakhali district divides Bauphal and Dumki upazila. The major transport barrier between the Bauphal and Patuakhali, Barisal city is Boga Bridge. The proposed 900 meter long Boga Bridge will be constructed under the supervision of World Bank, ADB, local and international experts. This paper shows the environmental impact assessment of Boga Bridge over the Lohalia River. The aim of the study is to identify the major environmental impact, mitigation measures and environmental impact value of the Boga Bridge. The major impacts of the Boga Bridge are loss of livelihood, loss of land, delta formation, loss of trees and rare species, loss of fisheries, navigational restrictions, surface water pollution, air pollution, soil contamination, river bank erosion, change the river flow. The environmental impact value of this project is "-3" (negative three). The mitigation measures for the Boga Bridge project are cash compensation, relocation, periodic dredging, plant two for one felled, provide new jobs, revetment, provide safe water, good food and sanitation etc. By the proper implementation of these mitigation measures must help to reduce these impacts.
Assess the environmental impacts of construction and operation of highway Khorram-Zal
If we want to solve environmental critical problems, should superpose macro lookout of developing with environmental legislation. Environmental assessment is the safest way of environmental protection and continues of sustainable development. In this research, at first descript physical,biological, socio economic and cultural Status Quo then recognize impact of this project. We use Leopold matrix that be suggested for Iran condition. Finally it has 580.23 positive and 303.4 negative marks on this scope. So applying this project is on priority. We try to not pollute natural resources with long-term policies. Increasing a significant amount of urban area is a common phenomenon in developing countries like Bangladesh. Many pulling factors drive people to the urban area, such as better living conditions, work opportunities, citizen services. Cox's Bazar sea beach, located in Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila, Cox's Bazar District, Chattagram division, is the world's longest sea beach and an attractive tourist spot. Over the years, urbanization has spread rapidly in this area, and this research aims to discover the significance of rapid urbanization over the climate of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila. The study attempts to identify the land use and land cover changes (LULC) of the Upazila over several years and evaluate the environmental impact of the rapid urbanization of the coastal area of Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila. In this study, the overlay map method refers to the identification of land use and land cover (LULC) changes, and the method of the checklist is used to explain the local people's perception. The satellite images of the years 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020 were got from USGS (United States Geographical Survey) and categorized by Geographic Information System (GIS) software to measure variations in land use and land cover (LULC) into five foremost land-use groups. A field survey was conducted using a questionnaire survey to collect local citizen's sentiments using the checklist methodology and analyze all the information through the Social Sciences Statistical Package program (SPSS). The urban area and the rural settlement increased by 36.79 km2 and 23.39 km2 between 2005 and 2020, but Salt & Shrimp farming, the bare land, the hill forest area decreased significantly by 11.12 km2, 41.43 km2, and 6.96 km2. Besides, 66% of people in the marine drive zone, 80% of the main beach area individuals, thought that urbanization had affected this coastal area. People's views on the tariff system, energy demand, poor solid waste management, and poor drainage system are shown. An increasing number of hotels, resorts, and structures near the beach region affect the coastal ecosystem.
Impact of Construction Materials on Environment: A Case Study in Tangail District of Bangladesh

All around the Tangail district, Bangladesh of raw materials by the construction industries is accumulating day by day resulting with a depletion of natural resources, increasing the environmental impacts by air pollutants like NOx. SOx. PM and CO; emissions from the burning of fossil fuels from the constructions sites in all over the surroundings. The study aims to find out the environmental impacts of Construction Materials such as, cements, concrete, steel, sand, brick and stone are widely used and are dominating construction materials in construction sectors. These main construction materials are different products and have distinct production flow with significant impact on the environment. The amount of embodied energy and operational energy which is consumed in the process of production, recycling and reuse are becoming increasingly more important in the construction sectors due to the potential shortage of natural resources in the nearby future and due to the inflation in the energy prices. This research used methodological approach to the case study based research through investigations, observations with field data collection and analysis with randomly sampled in the selected area of Tangail district. Research findings are the elements of the built environment are all products of construction materials. Uses of construction materials obtained from natural sources or processed from raw materials. Cements, concrete, steel, sand, brick and stone are used predominantly in construction sectors. In addition to satisfying construction needs, these materials also bring about serious environmental problems. The recommended and concluding remark of this paper is to review the impact of the use of these main basic construction materials on the environment. It was pointed out that the negative impact could be reduced by the recycling and reuse of the materials as well as which will reduce the consumption of new materials.
A review on methodologies adopted during environmental impact assessment of development projects
Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) is one of the proven anticipatory and legislative tool used to predict the environmental consequences of any development project. It is a decision making tool used to anticipate and quantify the positive and negative impact of a proposed development project on environment consisting of a social, economic and biophysical aspects. The purpose of the assessment to assist decision makers in considering the environmental impacts of proposed project when deciding whether to proceed with a project. Numerous EIA methodologies have been developed such as Interaction Matrices, Network, Checklist, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix (RIAM) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Although, there are number of studies on EIA methodologies to identify their strength and weakness, the adequacy of impact assessment methodologies was evaluated in terms of specific criteria like impact identification, impact communication and impact interpretation. A review on these EIA methodologies and their adoption has been presented in the current study. The aim of this review paper is to find out that, which method we can use to assess the environmental assessment of highway road expansion in mountainous regions.
Developing Guidelines for Environmental Impact Assessment of Kashmir Underpass Project in Faisalabad

Road development projects are important as they provide economical, political and social benefits but delays can occur. EIA is conducted for every project as required by the Environmental Protection Act of 1997 and the Environmental Policy of Pakistan for the purpose of ensuring mitigation of environmental impacts due to project activities. The Kashmir Underpass project in Faisalabad is assigned to FDA, for the purpose of satisfying growing need of traffic load due to population increase in surrounding areas in newly developed societies. This research examines the different factors of project affecting the environment. Questionnaire approach was utilized to gain insights of environmental impacts due to the project. Results showed that 93% of respondents didn’t knew about EIA and why it is necessary. Respondents were facing impacts from dust particles, noise, traffic, business loss etc. These impacts were analyzed and guidelines were developed for EIA of Kashmir Underpass Project.
