Based on written and archaeological sources political development of Terebovlia land in the XI–XIII centuries reconstructed, stages of its formation and development highlighted. Prerequisites for separation of this territorial unit began to emerge in the days of Croatian tribal rulings in IX–X centuries. After the campaign of Prince Volodymyr Svyatoslavovych on Croats (992/993) Terebovlia land became part of Kievan Rus. In the mid 1080’s in that territory Terebovlia independent principality established. It was headed by Prince Vasylko Rostyslavovych, and after his death – Rostyslav-Grygoriy Vasylkovych. It lasted until 1130’s, and then became part of the Galician principality. Terebovlia principality was restored for a short period during the reign of Ihorovychi in Galicia, when here Iziaslav Volodymyrovych reigned, and under the authority of the Lithuanian prince Olexander Koriatovych in the middle of the XIV century. Since the emergence, Terebovlia was an important political-administrative, cultural and military center of the region and reached greatest prosperity of during the Vasylko Rostyslavovych rule. During the functioning of Terebovlia land as separate administrative unit the gradual development of social, economic and political structures occurred, in particularly allocated a significant amount of feudal cities.
