The purpose of the study was to examine the student-level and school-level variability that affect middle school students’ academic achievement. Student background and school context on student academic achievement were examined. Participants of the study consisted of 1053 seventh and eighth grade middle school students from 10 schools in the cities of Ankara and Sinop, Turkey. The research study analysed using two-level hierarchical linear modeling (HLM). Data were analysed with three HLM models: (1) random effects one-way ANOVA model, (2) random coefficients regression model, (3) intercepts and slopes-as outcomes model. The results of the analyses showed that at the student level, gender, SES, and number of siblings were found to have statistically significant effects on student GPA. Analysis of the relationship between socio-economic status (SES) and student achievement has been prevalent in the literature, yet research focusing on the association between factors and the achievement of school populations with distinct categories of SES is limited. The purpose of the present study was to investigate various relevant student, household, and school factors associated with the performance of students with distinct SES backgrounds in Turkey. Specifically, this study aimed to compare the most disadvantaged students with the most advantaged ones in terms of factors affecting their reading, mathematics, and science achievement. The data for the study was taken from the latest Program for International Student Assessment (PISA), which was conducted in 2012. Several multiple linear regression models were employed in the analysis of the data. Results showed an enormous achievement gap between students in the lowest 25 SES percentile and those in the top 25 SES percentile in all subject areas, and suggested that socioeconomically disadvantaged students benefitted more from home educational resources and ICT availability, as well as reduced class size, compared to their counterparts from higher socio-economic backgrounds. The study provides substantial implications and suggestions for policy makers in general, and for those in Turkey in particular.

This study investigates the factors influencing the success of students in primary schools in Turkey. TIMSS 2011 data for Turkey, measuring the success of eighth-grade students in the field of mathematics, were used in an econometric analysis, performed using classical linear regression models. Two hundred thirty-nine schools participated in the TIMSS 2011 study for Turkey, and the sample size comprised 6,928 students. The results of our regression analyses revealed that regional differences, in particular, significantly impacted the success of students. Greater success in mathematics was achieved by students who live in urban areas and in socioeconomically more developed regions. Furthermore, math success rates of private school pupils were higher than those of public school students. The economic status of students' families, as well as their surroundings, sex, the educational background of their fathers, and educational instruments owned are substantial factors affecting the students' performance. We found that students whose fathers have a low level of education, who come from socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, and who live in poorly developed areas have lower performance.

Education is a key driver in reducing poverty and increasing shared prosperity. This study aimed to examine the impact of parental socioeconomic status and the school's physical facilities availability on academic performance. A quantitative survey research approach was utilized taking the state junior high school students in Southern Papua Province, Indonesia, as the population and samples. Data on parental socioeconomic status and the school's physical facilities availability were gathered using two quantitative survey questionnaires, while data on student academic performance was obtained by getting the surveyed students' academic records. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS software version 21. The results revealed a significant positive impact of parental socioeconomic status and the school's physical facilities availability on academic performance among the state junior high school students in Southern Papua Province, Indonesia, both partially and simultaneously. The result highlights the importance of addressing the disparities in access to quality education between students from different socioeconomic backgrounds. This study's findings may endorse the efforts to eliminate class-based gaps in students' academic performance in compulsory education. In addition, government policy on the socioeconomic status of parents and school grants should be implemented thoroughly to promote educational equity so that students from low economic backgrounds have equal access to quality education.
THE IMPACT OF SOCIOECONOMIC STATUS ON STUDENTS' ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT

The objective of this research was to investigate how a student's socioeconomic status impacts their academic performance. A descriptive survey method was used to conduct the study on all elementary level public sector students in district Mansehra. A two-stage random sampling technique was applied to select the sample. To determine the socioeconomic status of the students, a questionnaire was designed, while a test consisting of 40 multiple-choice questions on Math and English was used to measure their academic achievement. Reliability of the instrument was measured using Cronbach's alpha, resulting in a value of 0.85 for the questionnaire and 0.83 for the test. Mean, percentage, and frequency were used for data analysis. The study concluded that students from families with average financial status performed better academically than those from below-average financial status families. Additionally, students whose parents had higher levels of education scored higher on average compared to those whose parents had lower levels of education. These findings demonstrate the importance of socioeconomic status and parental education in predicting academic success and the need for targeted interventions to address disparities in educational outcomes among students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

For teachers, Ministry of Education and for academicians working in the field of education there may be many micro factors that can affect the success of the pupil in the school. However, generally these factors are put on with either just experiences or with just narrow surveys on just a few students. However, there is a large number of data that is waiting to be tested in the hands of Ministry of Education, just because of the common examinations performed in Turkey (OYS, SBS, YGS….) at least for the last 50 years. This paper here came out just as a curiosity of the writer for this field. The paper analyzes the average SBS results in different Istanbul districts and relates them to the average wealth, education level, private schooling and some other factors of the districts. The results are straightforward; the most important factor affecting the common examination successes is the education level of the family and the neighborhood. Though income has also some positive effects on SBS success it is not as direct and apparent as the education of the family. The paper shows that also private schooling and Life Quality of the neighborhood has some positive affects on SBS results.
The Relationship Between Aspects of Socio-Economic Factors and Academic Achievement
This study focused on two aspects of family socio-economy, that is, mother's and father's educational level and reading materials in the home. Four-hundred thirty form five students from three secondary schools in a district in Kedah were involved in this case study. The findings of this study support previous studies where both parents' level of education and reading materials available in the home were related to children's academic achievement. Findings are discussed and suggestions for further study are forwarded.
