Lupus erythematosus and the skin (original) (raw)
Cutaneous manifestations of lupus erythematosus (LE) represent a significant organ involvement, varying substantially throughout disease progression. Recognized environmental triggers include ultraviolet light exposure and specific drug classes. A classification system is used to characterize LE skin lesions into specific subtypes, assisting in differential diagnosis and prognostic assessments. The treatment approach is largely individualized, with most patients not requiring systemic therapies, while advances in biological therapies offer hope for those with severe skin conditions.
