GSM BASED AUTOMATIC ENERGY METER READING SYSTEM WITH INSTANT BILLING
The technology of e-metering (Electronic Metering) has gone through rapid technological advancements and there is increased demand for a reliable and efficient Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system. The proposed system replaces traditional meter reading methods. It enables remote access of existing energy meter by the energy provider. A GSM based wireless communication module is integrated with electronic energy meter of each entity to have remote access over the usage of electricity. A PC with a GSM receiver at the other end, which contains the database acts as the billing point. Live meter reading from the GSM enabled energy meter is sent back to this billing point periodically and these details are updated in a central database. Authentically, users can access the developed web page details from anywhere in the world. The complete monthly usage and due bill is messaged back to the customer after processing this data.So GSM based wireless AMR system is more effective approach for convention of billing system. This system also provide authority to electricity companies to take actions against lenient customers who have outstanding dues, otherwise company has right to disconnect the power supply and also it can reconnect power supply after deposition of dues. In present world almost all industrial systems are based on wireless communication, as it has many advantages. The development of a fully Automated Energy Meter which is having capabilities like remote monitoring and controlling of energy meter will lead to transparency in the energy meter reading and billing system. Automatic Meter Reading system (AMR) will continuously monitors the energy meter and sends data on to a server system of service provider through wireless communication where data will be stored as well. Later the bill details will be sent to the customer through SMS. It saves huge human labor. Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) technology is used to communicate between the service provider and the customer. This system avoids the human intervention in power management. If the customer does not pay the bill in time, the user is informed through SMS system using GSM. If still customer does not pay the bill then as per designed late consideration, one alert message will be sent then automatically the power connection is disconnected from the remote server. This developed system provides efficient monitoring of energy meter reading, power control mechanism, avoids the billing error and also reduces the cost of maintenance.

The prepaid meter must be recharged; as a result, clients can use the electricity. The system alerts the client for any kind of emergency. Besides, when the client is away from the house, he can easily switch off the supply of electricity by sending an SMS. This project will support both society and country because it helps to reduce the wastage of electricity and to check electricity consumption and bill from remote distances.

GSM based Automatic Meter Reading and Billing System
Owing to high electricity cost these days it becomes necessary for the consumer to know as to how much electricity is consumed to control electricity bill within his budget. In this proposed system, the consumer will get his energy consumption data on real time basis on a LCD display. The same data is sent through GSM modem to the electricity department via SMS. Arduino is interfaced to the energy meter to get the Watt Hour pulses. The Arduino then processes these pulses according the program written in it, to calculate the units consumed and cost involved. Further it gives command to the SIM loaded GSM modem for sending the data to the customer/consumer via SMS. Further this work can be enhanced to control the electrical appliances remotely via SMS. Also it can be used to monitor the power consumption or any other factor like pressure, temperature etc. with appropriate changes.

The designed device is installed with the energy meter installed in consumer's home. It collects the input from the energy meter converts those input to suitable signals for microcontroller. These signals from microcontroller are sent to the service provider using a GSM module. The service provider calculates the consumption and forwards a SMS to the consumers registered mobile number. Implementation of this project will reduce the cost of providing utility to the consumers. The experimental outcome was quiet promising.

Arduino and GSM based smart energy meter for advanced metering and billing system

Every management system is trying to make automatic, portable and remote control. This work presents a novel smart energy meter for an automatic and superior metering and billing system. The integration of the Arduino and GSM Short Message Service (SMS) provide the meter reading system with some automatic functions that are predefined. Firstly, we have simulated the project in PROTEUS 8.0 then successfully implemented on the circuit board in laboratory. The proposed energy meter system can incorporate with embedded controller and GSM modem to transmit the data like consumed energy in kWh, generated bill, security services (line Cut/On) over GSM mobile network such as data can be then fed and integrated into existing energy management systems located at power companies or organizations to provide the services among the customers without man-power. Our implemented project is able to provide all required services remotely for metering and billing with high fidelity.

GSM Based Automatic Electricity Billing System
In this project an automatic meter reading system is designed using GSM Technology. The embedded micro controller is interfaced with the GSM Module. This setup is fitted in home. The energy meter is attached to the micro controller. This controller reads the data from the meter output and transfers that data to GSM Module through the serial port. The embedded micro controller has the knowledge of sending message to the system through the GSM module. Another system is placed in EB office, which is the authority office. When they send " unit request " to the microcontroller which is placed in home. Then the unit value is sent to the EB office PC through GSM module. According to the readings, the authority officer will send the information about the bill to the customer. If the customer doesn't pay bill on-time, the power supply to the corresponding home power unit is cut, by sending the command through to the microcontroller. Once the payment of bill is done the power supply is given to the customer. Power management concept is introduced, in which during the restriction mode only limited amount of power supply can be used by the customer.
