Assessing the role of green supply chain management in enhancing Pakistan manufacturers’ performances

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2023

The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of success factors of Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) dimensions (i.e., green purchasing, internal environmental management, cooperation with customers, eco-design, and investment recovery) and their impact on the Organizational Performance of Manufacturers in Pakistan on three pieces of levels of execution (i.e., Environmental Performance, Economic Performance, and Operational Performance), whereas GSCM practices in developing countries like Pakistan need to be explored. Data was collected from managers of 220 business frms in Pakistan through survey questionnaires with a purposive sampling technique. The target population consisted of managerial employees (business experts and executives) from private business frms, and partial least square-structural equation modeling was used for analysis. All GSCM dimensions were found signifcant in at least one of the performances, except eco-design on environmental performance and green purchasing on economic performance, either clearly or indirectly. The proposed model assembles and provides the respondents’ distinctive working areas: electronic gadgets, automobile process and machinery sectors. Moreover, the appraisal of the connection between fve developments of GSCM practices and three builds with the efect of the green distribution of authoritative execution in the Pakistan assembling setting ofers an extraordinary theoretical commitment to exploring the green supply chain management feld. First, this research is done by studying the green supply chain management dimensions of diferent performances of manufacturing frms in Pakistan, which has never been done before. Second, it contributes to the existing literature on critical success factors of GSCM. Manufacturing frms should implement GSCM practices to improve all three types of performance, i.e., environmental, economic, and operational.

On the one hand, the relationship between strategic orientations of the environment, supply chain, institutional pressure, and adoption of GSCM practices is examined on the other hand GSCM practices, and its relationship with performance measures including Customer Effectiveness, Environmental Differentiation, Economic Performance, Operational Efficiency and Social Performance is examined. The Smart PLS software is used to compute content validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and predictive relevance model. The companies in Pakistan are less oriented towards environment and supply chain. However, due to the pressure from institutes, they are persuaded to adopt GSCM practices in their operations, which eventually boost their performance. The outcome of GSCM practices results in saving the environment, creating a better social image, cost reduction and profitability which would enable managers to be able to know strategic orientations (both environmental and SCM) rather than depending on the issues of institutional pressures and monitoring directions of strategies for Green SCM.

Factors influencing the implementation of green supply chain management: The case of Pakistan SMEs

Journal of Infrastructure, Policy and Development

The implementation of green supply chain management (GSCM) in developing countries is represented by less advanced economic growth than in industrialized countries. It is reasonable to presume that different nations may have different constructs influencing GSCM adoption. Even though, there is a gap in the literature regarding the execution of GSCM in developing nations like Pakistan. This demonstrates the necessity and importance of undertaking empirical research on the variables influencing GSCM adoption from the perspective of Pakistan small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To close the gap in GSCM research, this study tries to pinpoint the variables influencing GSCM adoption among Pakistan SMEs. SPSS software version 23 is used to apply statistical techniques to the primarily obtained data. The survey form was administrated to 600 target respondents from all administrative levels. There were 210 complete and usable survey forms, showing a response rate of around 35%. First, the re...

EFFECTS OF GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT APPLICATIONS ON OPERATIONAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE: COMPANY AND FINAL CUSTOMERS

EFFECTS OF GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT APPLICATIONS ON OPERATIONAL, ENVIRONMENTAL AND FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE: COMPANY AND FINAL CUSTOMERS, 2023

Background: Green supply chain management (GSCM) practices are vital to environmental protection. Many large-scale companies claim that GSCM applications are implemented in their business (with ISO 14001 documents, advertisements, etc.). The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationships between GSCM applications and the operational, environmental, and financial performance of the business. In addition, GSCM practices applied in the business ensure that what is done from the perspective of the final customer. It also determines the external pressures that affect the businesses most in protecting the environment. Methods: The study consists of two parts. The data in the first part includes the lower, middle and senior managers working in the construction sector operating in Turkey. The data in the second part includes the final customers located in Yenice, Çanakkale. Results: GSCM applications affect the operational, environmental, and financial performance of the business positively. Additionally, similar results were obtained for the final customers. However, there are differences in the degree of impact of both outcomes. Conclusions: GSCM applications in Turkey protect the environment while searching for the efficiency of the business. However, it seems that the GSCM applications of the business are not fully informed or understood by the final customers. In addition, business employees see that the first factor that will push people to become environmentalists is customer pressure, and the second is the pressure of nongovernmental organizations. The final customers, on the other hand, give priority to environmental awareness first and nongovernmental organizations second. State authority is in the third place.

Does Green Matter? A Study of Perception of Manufacturers and Consumers of a Developing Country about Green Supply Chains

Journal of Management and Research,5(1), 2018

Green Supply Chain Management (GrSCM) has received increased attention from both academia and industry in recent years in the industrial nations. It focuses on reducing the adverse impact of business processes on the environment. These business processes include product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing processes, product delivery and end-of-life management of the product. The research studying interactions between environment and businesses in Pakistan has been scarce. This study is conducted to set a platform for GrSCM research in Pakistan as it aims to investigate the perceptions of the manufacturers and consumers regarding their understanding about GrSCM and green products. A qualitative research design including in-depth interviews from senior managers of three manufacturing firms and a focus group of customers has been conducted for this purpose. A list of critical factors of GrSCM has been developed based on survey of the literature. The comparison between the GrSCM literature, manufacturer perception about GrSCM and consumer perception about green products lead towards the conclusions regarding; how consumers perceive green products? Do they really demand such products? Do the manufacturers think there is a need for GrSCM? How do they think GrSCM can lead to competitiveness and better economic performance? Basic understanding regarding these issues leads to the future direction for research and practice in this area.
