The present study was carried out to analyze Ipomoea indica for its phytochemical and physiochemical characteristics and to establish its antioxidant potential. The plants samples were collected from Islamabad, Pakistan. Total antioxidant activity was significantly higher in leaves samples of Ipomoea indicaas compared to stem sample extracted in chloroform. Similar pattern for antioxidant activity was observed in ethanolic extracted samples. Phenolic contents of leaves extracted in chloroform were significantly higher as compared to stems. Similarly phenolic content of leaves was significantly higher from stem extracted in ethanol. The least flavonoid contents were observed in leaves of Ipoemea indica. Moreover, minimum activity of reducing power assay was observed in stem and leaves.
Isolation, Characterization of Phytoconstituents and Pharmacological Screening of Ipomoea Staphylina

The present study evaluates the methanolic and hydro alcoholic extracts of whole plant, stem, root, flower, leaves of Ipomoea staphylina for their in-vitro antioxidant activity (by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) and superoxide radical scavenging method), in-vitro antidiabetic activity (by α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibitory method) and in-vitro anti-inflammatory activity (by 5-lipoxygenase inhibitory method). DPPH radical scavenging activity of stem hydro alcoholic and leaf methanolic extract of Ipomoea staphylina is found to be more potent as compared to other extracts with IC50 values 17.67 µg/ml, 32.77µg/ml respectively. Superoxide radical scavenging activity of stem hydro alcoholic and leaf hydro alcoholic extracts of Ipomoea staphylina is also found to be potent compared to other extracts with IC50 values 15.54 µg/ml, 16.02 µg/ml respectively. The present study was to investigate various medicinal value phytochemicals in leaf and stem portion of Ipomoea pes-caprae were determined by various physic chemical characteristics like moisture content, total ash content acid insoluble ash content, water insoluble ash content and solvent extractive values. The qualitative phytochemical screening and quantitative analysis by GC-MSD with nonpolar solvent n-hexane, suggested the presence of alkaloid, sugar, glycoside, saponins, steroids, terpenoids and flavonoids. The study provides evidence that the leaf and stem has potential source of antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and cytotoxic agents.
Phytochemical and proximate analysis of ipomoea cairica tuber

The analyses for nutrients of Ipomoea cairica tuber were carried out and the phytochemical and proximate parameters were determined. The phytochemical analyses looked into the alkaloid, flavonoid, cyanogenic glycoside, tannin, phytate and saponin contents of Ipomoea cairica tuber while the proximate composition determination was aimed at the protein, carbohydrate, moisture, lipid, ash and fibre contents. The methods applied for these analytical determinations were mainly those of the Association of Official Analytical Chemist (AOAC, 2005). Each type of analysis (whether proximate or phytochemical) were carried out in triplicate and the mean values determined. The phytochemical analyses showed that Ipomoea cairica tuber had; flavonoid (1.52±0.03 %), Alkaloid (2.10±0.28 %), Tannin (0.05 %), Saponin (1.24±0.04 %), Cyanogenic glycoside (0.05 %), and phytate (0.02 %). RP-HPLC and LC–MS–MS determination of a bioactive artefact from Ipomoea pes-caprae extract

Solvents play important and critical role in natural product chemistry and could generate artefacts during the extraction and purification of metabolites from a biological matrix. This study aimed to correlate the chromatographic profile with biological activity of Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) R. Br., Convolvulaceae, extracts obtained with hydroethanolic extraction. Thus, aerial parts of I. pes-caprae were extracted with different concentration of ethanol (50, 70 and 90 • GL) and the obtained extracts were analysed by HPLC-UV. HPLC data were studied employing chemometrics to discriminate the samples. Moreover these samples were further characterized by using UPLC-QTOF/MS data. The extracts were also biomonitored through the paw-oedema and spontaneous nociception induced by trypsin in mice. Different chromatographic profiles were obtained and the exploratory analysis clearly revealed higher level of ethyl caffeate in extracts of lower strength of ethanol (50 • GL). This compound was suggested to be an artefact formed by transesterification of caffeoylquinic acid derivatives present in the plant, once it was not observed when other solvents were employed. During the biological assay, only the extract obtained with ethanol 50 • GL presented significant inhibition of inflammation (45 ± 9%) and nociception (24 ± 3%). Ethyl caffeate seems to be linked to the anti-inflammatory effect since it reduced 86 ± 5% of paw-oedema induced by trypsin. Artefacts could contribute to the biological activity of herbal preparations and consequently lead to misinterpretation of the results.

The genus Ipomea contains a wide variety of species that can be found growing along road side in wastelands and along canals. Ipomoea carnea is a plant that grows up to 600 centimetres tall and is straight, woody, bushy and slightly cylindrical in shape with a greenish tint. It is also known as Besharm or bush morning glory, the stem of the Ipomoea carnea plant has different leaves. This plant is utilised as a folk medicine in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani system of medicine and literature suggest that Ipomoea carnea may have anti-oxidant, immunostimulant, anticancer, hepatoprotective and various other pharmacological activity. T2-ethyl-1,3-dimethylbenzene, 2-(12-pentadecynyloxy) tetrahydro2H-pyran, 3-furanyl[2-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-methyl-2-methylpropyl-cyclopentyl] methanone, 2,2-dideuterooctadecanal, hexadecanoic acid, Linoleic acid are chemical components of Ipomoea carnea. After conducting a thorough examination of the literature. Ipomea Carnea has been shown to be a safe, cost-effective, and potentially therapeutic herb for the treatment of a variety of ailments. Integrating its active components or extracts or fractions in suitable drug delivery system can be used to investigate its therapeutic potential.
Review of the genus Ipomoea: traditional uses, chemistry and biological activities
Approximately 600-700 species of Ipomoea, Convolvulaceae, are found throughout tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Several of those species have been used as ornamental plants, food, medicines or in religious ritual. The present work reviews the traditional uses, chemistry and biological activities of Ipomoea species and illustrates the potential of the genus as a source of therapeutic agents. These species are used in different parts of the world for the treatment of several diseases, such as, diabetes, hypertension, dysentery, constipation, fatigue, arthritis, rheumatism, hydrocephaly, meningitis, kidney ailments and infl ammations. Some of these species showed antimicrobial, analgesic, spasmolitic, spasmogenic, hypoglycemic, hypotensive, anticoagulant, anti-infl ammatory, psychotomimetic and anticancer activities. Alkaloids, phenolics compounds and glycolipids are the most common biologically active constituents from these plant extracts.
Studies on anatomy and phytochemical analysis of Ipomoea pes-tigridis L

The present study has been carried out to determine the requisite anatomical features of root, stem, leaf, petiole and phytochemical analysis for evaluating the Ipomoea pes-tigridis an important medicinal plant used in the traditional systems of medicine. This investigation provides referential anatomical and phytochemical information for correct identification of this plant.
