Potential of Residential Grid-Connected Photovoltaic System as the Future Energy Source in Malaysia
Proceeding of the Electrical Engineering Computer Science and Informatics, 2015
Malaysia has started the implementation of solar energy harvesting in 1998. Located at equatorial region, Malaysia has a large potential for solar energy. This paper examines the current energy consumption and demand in Malaysia. The potential of solar energy harvesting in Malaysia is described together with the suitable photovoltaic construction. It also explains the plans conducted by Malaysia involving solar energy that covers investments and also projects involved such as Malaysia Building Integrated Photovoltaic (MBIPV). Finally, this paper analyses the potential of having a gridconnected PV system in a residential area. The positive and negative findings in terms of cost and suitability of the system are explained.
Evaluation study on grid-connected PV system at university of Malaya
International Conference for Technical Postgraduates 2009, TECHPOS 2009, 2009
This paper presents the complete design of a photovoltaic installation that may be either used for internal electric consumption or for sale using the renewable energy incentive program by the state of Malaysia (SURIA 1000 and so on.). Moreover in this article an economic and environmental study is carried out on PV solar energy installations connected to the Malaysian electrical grid system. The study has been performed on construction situated in the city of Kuala Lumpur (with an average irradiation value approximately equal to 5.4 kWh/m2/d) based on an analysis of the technical and financial viability of a grid connected PV systems. Initially, the study is performed; proposing different scenarios where different values of interest rates and initial costs incentives applied. The following parameters are used to determine the profitability of a PV structure: the Net Present Cost (NPC), Renewable Fraction (RF) and Lifetime. Furthermore, the environmental benefits of PV systems connected to the grid have been evaluated. http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpls/abs\_all.jsp?arnumber=5412043
This paper presents a field operation experience for a grid connected PV system under tropica l climate. The system is consisted of a 5 kWp photovoltaic (PV) array and a 6 kW DC/AC inverter. The operation performance data are recorded in order to develop accurate mathematical models for the system as well as to evaluate the produc tivity of the system. The experiment results show that, the average PV performa nce (the ratio of the theoretical performance to the actual performa nce) is 73.12% while the average inverter performance (the ratio of the theoretical inverter efficiency to the actual inverter efficiency) is 98.56%. Moreover, it is found that the daily yield factor of the PV system is 2.51 kW h/kWp day while, the capacity factor is 10.47%. However, it is concluded that the productivity of the system is below the prospected rate and thus , an inspection of the system must be done in order to diagnose the problem of the system's low productivity. This paper presents worthwhile information for those who are interested in PV system installation in Malaysia and nearby country.
Usage Of Solar Energy And Its Status In Malaysia
Engineering e-Transaction (ISSN 1823-6379), 2010
Grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverter technology has advanced since it first attracted the attention of policy makers. The objective of this article is to present a survey of grid-connected PV inverters and their present technology in Malaysia. Surveyed here are 186 PV inverter products from 22 manufacturers, their power factors, system THDs, efficiencies, power inputs (from PV array), costs, sizes, and protections investigated, and their datasheets collected from various manufacturers in Europe, North America, and Asia. The data are compared within regions and subject headings. Discussed are the lowering of cost, the raising of efficiency levels, and reliability improvement.

Feasibility Study of Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System for Primary School in Johor
Indonesian Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2018
This project aims to determine the potential of grid connected solar Photovoltaic (PV) implementation and project planning of solar PV System in school. Generally, the educational institution used huge amount of electricity to operate so their monthly bills is expensive. Therefore, the project planning is necessary to determine the potential of solar PV system implementation. The project planning consists of the current electricity consumed by the school and the amount of 120W Monocrystalline PV module needed by them. The cost of project are determines to identify the initial cost of this project implementation. Lastly, analysis on the profit collected by SK Pintas Raya after 20 years of solar PV system implementation proved the importance of this project.
COMPARISON OF VARIOUS TYPES OF ROOFTOP GRID CONNECTED SOLAR PLANTS: A CASE STUDY
The growing electrical energy demand in developing countries like India has triggered the scientists and engineers to think of new and innovative methods in the field of renewable energy sources especially solar energy. Grid connected PV systems have become the best alternative to bulk electrical power consumers like industries and other institutions. In this paper 280kWp Photovoltaic grid connected power plant commissioned at CVR College of Engineering is taken for research study. This plant uses three mechanisms to trap the solar energy from the sun to produce electrical energy from the solar array. Out of three mechanisms, Single axis Polar tracking, Single axis tracking power plants produce more amount of electrical energy compared to seasonal tilt power plant. The energy outputs of Single Axis Polar tracking power plant and Single axis tracking power plant are compared from May '15 to September '16. After observing the energy outputs from each power plant, the entire 12 months of time in a year is divided into two time frames viz. from October to March and other from April to September. In one time frame Single Axis Polar tracking power plant is giving better performance whereas in other time frame Single axis tracking power plant is giving better output.
