A Case Study on Speaking English at Fourth Semester in Putera Batam in Year 2013-2014

Speaking is one of the most important skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Even other people can judge someone whether he masters English or not only by this language skill though there are many other language kills which can decide he master it or not. Of course to judge someone we need to test him or her. There are five kinds of speaking, namely Initiative, intensive, responsive, interactive and extensive. This research used interview speaking test for final examination at the fourth semester in faculty of literature in Putera Batam University. The data collected from the population of 3 classes with the total students of 126 students. The sample is taken from 1 class with the total students of 26. The data from interview are written down in the form of script. Yet not all phases of interview will be analyzed, only probe questions which contain five questions are analyzed from grammar, vocabulary, fluency and Pronunciation.

A Study on Teaching Speaking at English Education Department of Universitas Islam Madura

This study was purposed to describe the difficulties in linguistics faced by the students in studying Speaking and the ways taken by the lecturer in solving the students’ linguistics difficulties in studying Speaking at English Education Department of Universitas Islam Madura.The research design was descriptive and the subject of the study was fourth semester students and Speaking Lecturer of English Education Department. The data were collected by observing the Speaking lecturer and interviewing the six students and speaking lecturer. They were analyzed descriptively. The finding showed that the materials used in teaching speaking are Describing Object, Simple present and Vocabulary. Meanwhile, the strategies which are used by the lecturer are lecturing, individual task, group discussion, students’ performance and role play. The problem in this research is what are the students’ problems in speaking English in the Speaking for beginner class by the second semester ? This research aims to to find out the students’ problems in speaking English in the Speaking for beginner class by the second semester.. This research will be used a qualitative method in the type of descriptive. The subject in this research is the second semester students of English Education Department. The total subject is 10 students which have low score in speaking subject. The purposive sampling technique will be applied in this research. The Problems in Speaking for English Department Student in STKIP BUDIDAYA – BINJAI

This paper is purposed to find out the problems in speaking skills for English department student in STKIP Budidaya – Binjai. The speaking skill is the last position to cover up the four skills in English because speaking is the improving your ability to use four skills in English. Speaking needs some stimulation to attract the students speaks their ideas, opinion, or comments about something. Speaking Problems Faced by the English Department Students of Syiah Kuala University

This paper discusses the difficulties and causes perceived by English Department students of Syiah Kuala University in learning speaking and the efforts made by them to overcome their difficulties. From both observation and interview, this study reveals that all students encountered various difficulties in English speaking ability. The prevalent problem faced by the students was ‘lack of vocabulary’, while ‘being afraid of making mistakes’ was the prime cause of problem which hindered them to speak. The students had striven to cope with their problems in learning speaking, but their attempts had not been yet ample and successful.

Future English teachers need to have excellent communication skills in English at all cost. One of the important skills to master is speaking because it often represents a teacher overall competence in the eye of the students. This research is aimed to identify the initial speaking ability of the future English teachers who were still in the first semester in their study. This study was designed using descriptive qualitative research method employing observation, questionnaires, students’ speaking assessment using IELTS speaking test format, as well as interview. The participants of this study were 8 freshmen of the English Education Department, Universitas Nasional Karangturi. The data analysis employed in this study was inductive analysis based on Burns (2010) and Hatch (2002). This research is aimed to find out the Students’s Perception towards the Effectiveness of Speaking for Intermediate Subject to Support their Speaking Skill of English Department Students in Makassar Muhammadiyah University. This research was descriptive qualitative. The population were 20 students at the third semester. The instrument used observation and interview.As a result on the findings, the students gave the positive perception toward the implementation of speaking for intermediate subject to measure the effectiveness of speaking for intermediate subject to support their speaking skill. However, the students claimed that they have got many advantages during the implementation of speaking for intermediate subject. This research also found out that this strategy also needed to be improved by the lecturers in terms of giving instruction, observing the class and evaluating the implementation of speaking for intermediate subject.

M.Pd Keyword: Speaking Ability, Language Learning Strategy The problem of the research are: (1) what are strategies used by students in learning English speaking; and (2) what are the dominant strategies used by students in learning English speaking. The objectives of the research are: (1) to know what are the strategies used by students in learning English speaking; and (2) to know what are the dominant strategies used by students in learning English speaking. The method used in this research was descriptive quantitative. The research was started from January until September 2015. The population of this research was the third semester English Department of IAIN Surakarta in the academic year of 2015/2016. By using random sampling, the researcher took class 3B that consist of 39 students as the sample of the research. To collect the data, the researcher used questionnaire. The questionnaire is used to get the data about students’ strategies in learning English speaking. To know the strategies used by the students was used formula sum of each score divided the total of participant and to know the dominant strategy used by students was used formula the amount of the value obtained divided the total of participant times one hundred percents. The result of the research were: (1) strategies applied by students were memory strategy (M=3.27), cognitive strategy (M=2.94), compensation strategy (M=3.40), metacognitive strategy (M=2.91), affective strategy (M=2.84) and social strategy (M=2.42). (2) the dominant strategy applied by students in learning English speaking was compensation strategy with 42.05%.
