Codex Cumanicus is the first known Turkish monument written in Latin alphabet. It is thought that Codex Cumanicus was used for missionary and trading at the end of the XIII. century and the beginning of the XIV. century, in north of the Black Sea domains of Kipchak, Christian priests and Venetian merchants. In this book, except for the Persian, Latin, Kuman word lists, proverbs, riddles, hymns of Kipchaks are also provided. Although a work written for certain purposes, the Codex Cumanicus has a quite varied and rich vocabulary. The book draws attention to vocabulary specifically to all areas of daily life for example, precious metals, minerals, plants, animals, human and animal body, limbs, disease names, numbers names, color names, clothing, household goods, war materials, trading goods, religious terms, calendar (day, month, week names), law, measure , object names, food names and etc. The presence of these elements in the Codex Cumanicus, may give clues on many issues, such as Kuman-Kipchak language, lifestyles, cultures, geographies. For this purpose, in this article Turkic vocabulary of animals names in the Codex Cumanicus are discussed; and compared the field of historical and modern Turkic language. At the end of this study, most of the animal names of Codex Cumanicus were present the first texts in Turkic. Hapax legomenon animal names which aren’t encounterd in other periods of the Turkic languages have also been identified encountered. The Persian, Mongolian, Arabic, Greek, Russian quote animal names that are seen in this book is also remarkable. Some of the names of animals, however, only the Kipchak areas of historical and modern areas have been identified. This is observed only in the field names in Kipchak, the presence of these specific words Kipchak is evaluated. When the animal names are classified in Codex Cumanicus, it seems that the names of wild animals (twenty five percent) and birds (twenty two percent) form the majority.
